For those that often look at Skyrim as a gimmick of Dragon A

Post » Tue Jul 13, 2010 11:58 pm

The Elder Scrolls series have been around for a while, in fact for about 16 years and I think its fair to say that Bethesda has a full ride to develop a plot with dragons. Dragon Age has made itself to specialize in the dragon-theme and there are often people who are mistaking Skyrim's plot as a copy of it. I think not and that Bethesda can fully develop a game with dragons in their own unique way. This is because the lore about Alduin and the coming of the world's end has been written in way before Dragon Age. I don't despise Dragon Age its just that you should look at who has the full say and right in developing a dragon-plot in its game...and Dragon Age has always made it games fun too. I appreciate both and don't compare them with an intention of regret.

Bethesda also stole ideas from Dungeons & Dragons...who stole ideas from JRR Tokien, who stole ideas from previous authors, who stole ideas from epic stories, who stole ideas from centuries ago, who stole ideas from early homo sapiens, who stole ideas from homo erectus, who stole ideas from Australopithicus Afarensis, who stole ideas from natural wildlife, who stole ideas from mammals that are now extinct, who stole ideas from dinosaurs, who stole ideas from fish, who stole ideas from single-celled life-forms, who stole ideas from the Big Bang, who stole ideas from some other parallel universe.

:lmao:

You mind if i sig that?

On topic - Just because the game will involve dragons doesn't really mean that Skyrim will be a replica of DA.

If anything Bethseda are just unlucky to have another dragon series of RPGs releasing a high profile game this year. They've clearly been saving dragons for Skyrim, fits with the big manly nords, snowy mountains and Conan sort of aethestic you get in a game set in Skyrim.

Yeah, but, come on, Dragons?

One of the appeals of the Elder Scrolls series (at least before Oblivion, yeah yeah) was that they tried to flesh out their game world without a total reliance on the usual fantasy tropes. They brought in intriguing real world elements like political in-fighting, religious conflict and supression, imperialism, colonialism, conflicting historical records. They made the "gods" and "demons" asymmetrical and distinct, and not stark "good" and "evil" opposites.

But now? Now they've gone back to dragons, dragons doing their usual dragony crap like burninating the thatched-roof cottages and setting the peasants on fire. That stuff's as old and as trite as the Hobbit. Sure, there's stuff with the civil war and all, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the civil war is going to be a simple pretext for uniting the people against the ancient evil dragons.

edit: spelling

I don't see what the deal with Dragon Age is. It's not like dragons have got to do anything with the plot of the game (I mean...the Archdemon is kinda, well meh), Grey Wardens aren't dragon slayers. I've seen people drawing parallels to Divinity 2, where dragons and their slayers play a much prominent role, but again - it's just such a popular theme, you can't blame devs for wanting to tap in it.

The difference between Skyrim and DAO is Skyrim will actually be fun to play. I think that trumps any claims about originality. /opinion

Wait, what?

Am I missing something here? Wasn't Skyrim like announced less than a month ago. It's not like there are any actual videos about this.

This thread is totally pointless. Ofcourse people don't know about it much.

Egg came first. Everyone knows that. Unless you are a creationist.

By now, after a few thousand years, I would think fire breathing dragons would be in public domain.
