So, I'm getting a new laptop tomorrow, well a netbook. Anyway it comes with norton netbook Internet security, however, I want a spyware/malware scanner to fall back on for peace of mind. I need one that only scans - no realtime protection or active background security; just the scanner. Any spring to mind? I use a lot of software but can't think of any good reputable ones that just scan.

Anyway, before it gets locked: The only AV that has no real-time scanning is ClamWin. Many AVs, however, have a way to disable real-time scanning. MSE is pretty light too. Malwarebytes is also on-demand.

That sounds like a great idea. Really.

Luckily for you, it won't come to that, MSE is more than good enough, and you can easily toggle the real-time scanner. (I keep mine off, too)
