Oblivion journals

Post » Sun Jul 18, 2010 7:11 pm

So a long time ago I found http://timsup2nothing.blogspot.com/ about a character in the Morrowind main quest. I keep going back and dipping into it, and always end up firing up the game myself. What I'm looking for now is an Oblivion journal, or two, of the same/similiar quality. The more unique the take on the MQ the better, but I'll read pretty much anything so long as it's written well.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to ask but I think this may be in the wrong section.

Have you checked out the http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=663937 list. I am not sure if there is anything there of use to you, but it's worth a look. :)

Hmm, perhaps I was being a little too obscure.

I'm looking for character journals, or fanfiction sites, or recs of fic posted here if that is all there is, that are well written, devoted to a single character following the main quest, and any or all side quests, in Oblivion. They don't even have to be complete, I just need inspiration to keep me interested.

Just look around. There are plenty of fan-fics.

One fanfiction that comes to mind is http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3645494/1/Twist_of_Fate, a massive, novel-length, completed fanfiction over at fanfic.net.

That said, there are a lot of decent fanfictions on this forum that follow the events of Oblivion. Not all of them follow the main questline, but that's part of their creativity.

Acadian's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1033100.

Rachel the Breton's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=1010914.

Bobg's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=862718.

Mirage in the Desert's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=860816.

FC4's http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=854633 (technically, it follows the Shivering Isles questline)

My own http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?showtopic=859168 (eheh, plugging my own work  ).

Really, just scan back through the fanfiction archives... maybe even do a search for "fanfiction" to help weed out the RPs. You'll find plenty of good stories here.

I like the idea of a journal fan-fic actually, could be cool. I know there are some that follow Oblivion's MQ, but personally I'd go against it unless you're a REALLY good writer and can think of ways to still keep it interesting, otherwise it'll be boring and just feel like deja vu. Not saying you're not a good writer, you may be, but obviously I don't know yet. :)

And of course read the fan-fics BSparrow suggested, very good stuff in all of them (except maybe that last one  Kidding)!

Arwen's journal springs immediately to mind. Her Morrowind journal was excellent, and the classic of it's kind to be honest, although the Oblivion one is still ongoing.

Oh I think The Neveragaine by Helena should be included into BSparrow's list. I believe it can be considered a journal and is the best fan-fic out there at the moment. In my opinion anyway.

I would second burntsierra on Arwen's Journal. That is what got me started, along with BSparrow and Bobg. :P

Buffy's Oblivion journal (my thread) is very RP, but extremely true to the quests we know and love from Oblivion. Even to the point of insisting on primacy of Cyrodiil physics over the more realistic physics of earth, so that there is even a "guidebook" quality for those playing similar characters. Although the MQ factors into her story, it does so in a unique and somewhat minor way. The link is in my sig if that sounds of interest to you.

Oh, it's very good, but it deals with the events of Morrowind, not Oblivion - which is probably why nobody had mentioned it before :)

Yeah I suppose but I used it so the OP could see an example of a good journal fan-fic, regardless of the fact it's about Morrowind.

I think they said in the first post they already read some Morrowind ones, but that's besides the point.

Yeah, a lot of fan fics are just re-writings of OB's main quest, though they have kind of fallen out of style here. Check sites that are exclusively for fan fics, like fanfic.com, and a few others I'm sure you can find by google search. I think Alexander has a forum that has some, something about Chorrol, was it?

PS My story, Fallen Champion, is following a side quest, kind of
