Which of the darn UI should I install

Post » Tue Jul 20, 2010 1:45 am

Hi there,

I am willing to change my UI, and have been reading a lot of good things about Darn's Ui .

Yet I don't understand exactly differences between his darkuid Darn and his Darnified UI, both available at nexus and both with a lot of endorsments.

What is exactly the difference between both and furthermore which one should I be installing?

The dark UI has a dark color (dark red/brown), the other one looks like vanilla (beige). Just have a look at the screenshots.

I recommend DarkUId DarN, because I find the vanilla too "glarey". But yes, by all means, do check out the screenshots first! :)

Once you understand how it works you can also do a bit of mix and match. I use most of a dark green UI, but I switched out the metallic elements that it shaded green back to brass/bronze ones.

When you mentioned Color Maps, are you referring to the Local or World Map? IIRC Darn offers a Local map change, but the World Map is independent. Again, I use a custom world map that's a mixture of Thacadian's with the extra Road and Trail data from Williesea's and it all works fine together.

In general terms, DarnUI provides the framework that makes it all work, and the others are replaceable components that fit into it, so you can replace them as sets or piecewise, and end up with it all looking just the way you want it to look.
