With Fallout 2 I was actually taken back a bit more. In New Reno and certain encounters with the Enclave, the violence was pretty whoa, even without the bloody mess perk.

I don't like that killing isn't a big deal (but it should be...).
I'd love to have more dialogue options...
I'd love to try to negotiate with raiders

Indeed. When you check Reilly's Rangers computer, their mission reports say they often get altercations with the Talon Company where they insult each other without drawing weapons (Except for one time)
While in the game, every Raider and Talon Company Merc are crazy, bloodthirsty people reduced to the humanity of a tiger infected with rage. How do the Talon Company get their members? They are an organization, people must be able to sign up, in exchange for a bad deed to perform I suppose. I doubt the Mercs breed their members. Same thing with Raiders. Beth designed the Fallout 3's raiders to be animals, while there could have been interesting discussions and negociations with them. But instead they are uni-dimensional and serve only to provide experience points and loot.

Yep, when the raiders captured Tandi near Shady Sands you could even try to negotiate with them.

Violence levels are more or less the same even though the animated gore is in fallout 3 exaggerated beyond any need especially when a 10mm bullet blows the body apart...
In the former Fallout series violence had sometimes a bit more in-dept detail ... like inflicted blindness, real crippled limbs,a well aimed blow to the Head wich left a character dazzled on the ground ...and the omnipotent kick in the groin! ( the resulting Floating Comments are hilarious sometimes )

All these fine details replaced by gore and only gore is a bit short for the 'game of the year'
the small strategic elements that could bring a crippled opponent is all but lost in a blow that f**k up in 100 parts shooter ... back to topic in a way 'fallout' 3 has a lot more (senseless/sometimes unnecessary) violence

but thats what apparently sells ........ sadly

and i don t dare put the diplomatic options and other gameplay highlights of the former fallouts in here cause its pretty much off topic and fills pages

I remember being so shocked when I got those dialog options lol. I figure the writer took a sick day and a temp filled those in. It was like a breath of fresh air to be able to say exactly what I was thinking.

I love the atmosphere and exploration of the nuked city ruins and the love to detail to be seen everywhere in FO3, but if it comes to RPG deepth it svcks compared to FO2 or 1.
