Play Fallout 1 first! Otherwise you won't 'get' the mentions and humour directed at the first game in Fallout 2.

I prefer Fallout 1. There's less stuff to do but if you want the authentic "post-apocalyptic" feeling, start with FO1. Fallout 2's societies are a bit too "developed". I understand that's the natural way of things, but I didn't like it very much. Gone are the necessities of survival, and returned are the necessities of "survival" (drugs, prosttutes, gambling).

Yeah I also prefer Fallout 1.

Anyway, Sashalon, there are two reasons why you should play Fallout 1 first.

1) The reason Stonefrog mentioned.
2) Fallout 1 has a bit less in everything in the gameplay department (less guns, quests and such), so you might see Fallout 2 as an improvement, which is only good for you. I don't want you to have Fallout 1 feel 'worse' than Fallout 2 if you get my drift.

Don't worry, it was the same for me. Till you get used to the system and then you'll be owning them. Once you get a good weapon and some armour you'll be much better.

Scrap that Andaius, don't kill the merchants for their items. I can't find any good traders now! I'll go to New Reno to find some good traders, haven't killed anyone there yet.

If you can believe it I had Sulik and leather armor before leaving klamath ;) If you can take king rat you can get a 10mm pistol it's a good beginning small gun. I then try to get a raiders vs something encounter while i'm going to my next city that I get shotguns and hunting rifles to play with.

That's similar to what I do. Instead, I patrol the area around New Reno waiting for a mobster vs thug war, they leave loads of weapons behind. Unfortunately 99% of the encounters are a pack of wolves!

Thats why I put lots of my first few SP into outdoorsmen to avoid the "pointless" ones. *Generally speaking I as pointless ones are ones that don't give you loot.*

Only merchant I kill regularly is Flick, ever since I accidentally pissed him off and killed him first time playing, it's a gear stop for me.

An awesome merchant if your playing FO2 is the gekko merchant after you find his friend. you can buy tons of stuff from him dirt cheap.

Just updating this post because I finally did it...

I killed Horrigan with the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioche. B) God I love Monty Python.
