Best NPC for Repairing Things

Post » Mon Jul 26, 2010 7:39 am

So who's the best NPC for repairing items? Moria don't have a high repair value. Any suggestions?

Oh, and why can we repair items from scratch instead of just using other "gear" types to rebuild. With repair at 100 I should almost be able to make things from scratch, with some scrap metal and this and that. Anyway I know the reason ... BTW this is a Class 1 Rant and if read it you'll get 5 rads per sec radiation exposure.

Crazy Wolfgang is the best NPC for repair once you invest in his caravan fully.

If you have Mothership Zeta, there is an NPC with 100 Repair Skill, but she disappears afterwards. Best bet is to just amp your own Repair Skill up to 100.

There's a glitch with Haley in Haley's Hardware in Point Lookout, which gives him a +1 to his repair skill every time you leave and re-enter his "cell" area. Eventually he'll be able to do 100% repairs for ya...

Three of the caravan traders have quite good repair skills (in the 60-75) range.

Spoiler
There's also the Alien Epoxy from Mothership Zeta, which can fill the gaps for a long time if you use it sparingly.

Getting your own skill to 50+ by level 6-10 is highly recommended, and you'll be wanting to get it closer to 80+ by level 20.

I usually just talk to the guy in Canturberry and invest 1300 caps in the traders: 200 for all, plus 500 for Wolfgang. That way, any trader can upgrade my stuff to about 2/3 condition, and Wolfie (when I find him) can make it almost new. Plus, they never seem to lose much of the caps I give them, so I can sell stuff I scavenge to them and get most of my caps back.

I found a map of the caravan routes. Is that a good map or do these guy's just wander the wasteland?

They follow a route, and the map is accurate if you know what "X" corresponds to which location. You'll occasionally stumble across them out in the wastes as they move from place to place.

The timing of their arrival, however, relies on the vagaries of the RNG. So sometimes you can do a quick series of 1 hour waits and have all four pop in front of you in rapid succession. Other times you'll have to wait for multiple hours before one will show up. Sometimes they move on after only 1 game hour, other times I've had them hang around for 8+ hours.

The Lone Wanderer can only repair an item with another of equal tech/value. I have a Tri-laser rifle ... found two so I got up to a damage of 60 ... which is 50% to 60% max value. I assume at 100% it does 100+ damage. I like how it turns things to ashes.
