Post » Mon Jul 26, 2010 7:36 pm

So apparently, I started playing Morrowind on the 360 and beat it on original xbox, help me on the morrowind thread. and Now I'm playing Oblivion again, started 3 years after i beat it for 1 year. And i forgot the methods on making a great theif, druid-like character (mage) and a tank (warrior). I need your help to make a warrior. with right birthsign, assigned skills in custom class, attributes and race. this is hard...

Pick your race based on looks. Nords, Redguards, and Orcs have the most useful base stats and skill bonuses, with Imperials and Dark Elves not far behind. But any race can make a good warrior in the long run. For birthsign take Atronach. It gives you excellent protection against magic and since you're not a spellcaster the drawback doesn't apply to you.

However, if you want to mix combat with some magic you could go with a Breton born under the Warrior birthsign (to cover starting weakness) or the Mage birthsign (weak start, but more powerful in the long run).

For class go with Combat Specialization and Endurance and Luck or Strength as favored attributes. For skills it gets complicated because it depends on whether you want to power game or just play naturally. For natural play just pick whatever skills you think would be useful. Presumably that would be Blade or Blunt (or both) along with Block, Heavy Armor, maybe Marksman. The rest of your skills could simply be fillers to keep your level down (in Oblivion it's good to have high skills, but bad to have high level).

I agree with Dragatus.

For skills, if you pick four majors that you're going to use, and three skills you're not, you should cap somewhere around level 27 (I think). Personally, I prefer to cap it a bit lower, but I miss out on a couple of things that don't appear in levelled lists to level 26, so you might not want to.

Therefore, a build I'd suggest is:

Race: As Dragatus said, any. But Redguard/Nord/Orc is the most powerful at the beginning, and Breton's are the most powerful in the endgame (when starting attributes make no difference) due to the magic resistance.
Birthsign: The Warrior for a quicker start. But The Atronach is good if you're not planning on using magic too much (or if you are, you need alchemy), as it absorbs 50% of the spells cast at you.
Attributes: Endurance + Strength/Luck/(possibly)Agility.

Skills:
Heavy/Light armour (pick one)
Blade/Blunt (again, pick one)
Armourer (for repairing your weapons in the field)

Those I feel are musts. If you want another skill, block or Marksman are good ideas. Then if you wish to cap your level, simply pick skills you won't use like speechcraft etc.

There is an advantage to starting with a high Endurance. Your Health is derived from the level of Endurance at each level-up, so the sooner you reach 100 Endurance, the higher your Health will be at any level. This is because Health is not calculated retroactively.

Thus an Orc, Redguard, or male Nord with the Warrior or Lady birthsign will end up with the highest possible Health, assuming that you level Endurance efficiently.
