Why Baurus could be a traitor...

Post » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:01 pm

I did go there before talking to Jauffre. And the city was still sacked.

It wasnt a great gate. And honestly, what young people wouldn't like a bit of power? He isn't an individual case. An anonymous bozo that (In my game) just closed an oblivion gate single handedly just to tell him that.

Are you seriously trying to say you could have taken baurus? In my game I actually tried to fight him. He killed me in one hit.
Hes a trained swordsman. And idk about you, but most of the people in this game seem pretty cocky about fighting you. Even after all the stuff you've done. So awesome, you have a sword that has 2 base damage, no armor worth mentioning. Baurus wins.

I wasn't seriously trying to say anything. I was under the impression that this thread was a joke. :)

Okay, bit of seriousness: Kvatch was attacked by a Great Gate. If you talk to the characters there, they describe it, and the siege engine that came out of it. Savlian Matius says "I don't know how to close this Gate, but it must be possible, because the enemy closed the ones they opened during the initial attack. You can see the marks on the ground where they were, with the Great Gate right in the middle."

Baurus is a level 40 Knight. He is marked essential during the tutorial, so you couldn't kill him then. If you could remove his Essential tag, you could kill him, although it wouldn't be easy. Level 1 players manage to kill Umbra, who is a level 50 Warrior. I think you might be able to get up on one of the high ledges, out of his reach, and kill him with spells and arrows.

Then again, maybe not. In any event, in my playthroughs, I've occasionally had a fairly hard time keeping him alive in the later mission in the sewers. Raven Camoran has very little problem killing him, if he's been weakened by the earlier encounters with mudcrabs, and my characters have never had any difficulty killing Raven.

::Seriousness mode off::

None of which addresses the obvious fact that Baurus was in on the assassination. In fact, on my last play of the tutorial, I would swear I saw him kill Glenroy. My redguard was wielding Renault's blade, was on the Adrenaline boost, and had already knocked off two of the attackers before Uriel interrupted us to give us the trinket. I put down the assassin after he got the Emperor. So, who killed Glenroy? Hmmm?

Would it not then have been a great sigil stone that came out of the portal? Hmm...

Level 1 players generally use ledges and such to their advantage, that or apotheosis. Not to mention people who attempt it either lose or are very very good at the game.
Glenroy is a scripted death I'm pretty sure. For example, in the PC version I console killed every agent just to try and save renault. Yet with no catalyst.

And even if he did think you could beat him, which I doubt given most people's cockiness in battle. Why not give it a shot? If you lose, immortality and a supposed heaven. If you win, well congratulations you just got the amulet of kings and killed the one person who could stop you.

They probably just saved it and used it again for the one at Bruma.

Or they just turn the difficulty down all the way... ;)

Are you saying that he's in on it, too? Jeez, and I thought he was the only one who had any sense; he didn't want to trust that scruffy prisoner in the first place...

:D

Maybe he thought I'd just reload until I got him. :poke:

Guys I'm telling you, JAUFFRE IS THE TRAITOR!!!!!
Jauffre knew about the plan to escape through the sewers and sent MD agents there
Jauffre knew of Martin and ordered a great gate in Kvatch
Jauffre forces the player to give him the amulet and then conveniently gets it stolen by the Mythic Dawn
Jauffre sends the player, the only loose end, to Kvatch, to face imminent death
Jauffre ordered the attack on Weynon Priory
Jauffre was fortunate enough to be in the chapel during the attack on Weynon Priory, and what a surprise, neither Jauffre nor the Mythic Dawn agents inside the chapel draw weapons until the player enters. Even then the agents turn to attack the intruders while Jauffre stabs them in the back to save himself and his secret.

When Baurus was wanting to go into the meeting, keep in mind, he didn't know about the meeting till you met the bosmer in red silk robes and gave you the note

You have a point. Also, let's not forget that it's Jauffre who sends you off on a completely optional wild goose chase to get help from all the "allies," probably knowing that it would force you to close Oblivion gates near all those towns...

Somebody should ask to see his birth certificate. I understand that he was originally scripted to be an Imperial, but it was changed to Breton for some reason.

Baurus does try to help you defend Bruma to his death, so no, I don't think Baurus is a traitor. I sooner have suspicions over Chancellor Ocato, since he doesn't provide any aid in helping defend Bruma.

Ever notice how much Mehrunes Dagon resembles a mud crab? A big red mud crab? Coincidence? I think not.

Not to mention that he is quite aware that the Emperor and all his heirs are dead. So what does he do? Instead of making sure the secret heir is safe he sits around Weynon Priory and read a book he's probably read 1000 times before.

Suspicious. Veeeery suspicious.

True.

Plus, had he just let you take the amulet with you to Martin, the game would have been a lot shorter. Bring Martin back with the amulet and all is well.

Hmmm....
