Either can provide excellent protection and both weigh nothing at that level.

Objectively, heavy is more durable.

Objectively, properly enchanted clothing/jewelry can beat either on all counts.

Subjectively, go for looks.

If you roleplay that too is important when making a choice. If you′re a scout-like adventurer it′s not likely you would want to walk around in a heavy tin can but rather a lightweight leather suit or similar. To me that eliminates mithril, elven etc even if those too are considered light armor.

It all depends on what you're going with. If you're doing Blades, Blunt, Combat people, You should probably do heavy armor in my personal view. If you're doing Stealth, Marksman, Magic, etc. Light armor is all around better for movement and efficiency of spells. :obliviongate:

Lets not forget the Barbarian. Light Armor with a Heavy weapon gives you the manoverability to make up for swing speed and blocking. You can dance around your opponent slicing chunks of health from him while he staggers about in his platemail.

OP stipulates he wants to compare both skills at 100. At 100, there is no difference between light and heavy armor in terms of movement, efficiency of spells or maneuverability.

The only differences at that skill level are durability, looks and image.

Leave the city through the east gate (the one north of the entrance to the castle, along the same wall) and head southeast along the path. When the path curves to your left, keep going straight, roughly southeast, along the little valley right there at the bend in the road. Just keep heading that direction and you'll run right into it.

Once you have received the task of going to that fort, it will be marked on your map east of Leyawiin. If you make that quest your active quest, there should also be a green marker pointing to it. Some folks don't like to use the map and/or quest markers, but I find it would make perfect sense for the mage who sent you there to mark it on your map for you. Good luck! :foodndrink:

At level 100 in both armor skills, Glass and Daedric both share the same defence bonuses.

The only difference is that Daedric has more health.

Answered? I hope so. =)

Just go with what looks badass... thats my approach.

you will fare well against 10 dremora lords whether in ebony or leather... I find stats to be largely irrelevant in this game.

In fact, you do move much slower in Heavy Armor than you do in Light Armor until you reach the Master levels, due to encumbrance.

So at the later levels when speed becomes more and more important, and taking hits are fatal no matter your equipment, Light Armor may be the way to go.

At earlier levels Heavy Armor makes the game easy-mode.

At 100- Heavy is better. I like the idea of trading it all in on enchanted jewelry and clothing. Shock Shield is da bomb.

^This.

Nearly all my chars have 100 at both Heavy/Light, just because I want to use the one I like the most, and not worrying about if it's Heavy or Light.

In my personal opinion I believe heavy armor is better because it lasts a whole lot longer in battle light armor just can't take the punishment that heavy armor can. Like everyone said it all depends on what you want to do and who you chose as a character. If you are in a close battle swinging away with weapons I would much rather have heavy because I know it won't break as fast.

This is true. The other side of that coin is that, if you have high agility and wear light armor, you don't get hit as much, so the armor doesn't take as much damage.

I think it comes down to preference. By the time you get to the level where the only difference is the durability of the heavy armor, you have such high armorer skill that it doesn't matter anyway; you can fix it all better than good with one hammer. :)

True you can dance around with light armor I would wait for you to come in and attack then block stagger attack and repeat until your armor is dead you can't fix while in a battle. This won't work if your using a bow though so thats why I have a battle mage with destruction and alteration to protect and hit from a distance I will damage either way.

Isn′t that more how Morrowind works? In Oblivion whether or not you′re hit doesn′t depend on dice cast in the background, but rather on the player′s own ability to move out of the way.

On another note, high agility does not help with staggering. At least not to me :meh:

I was kind of implying that with high agility you would be moving out of the way more, but, yes, you're right.

Most of my characters are so clumsy they can be staggered by rats. ;)

Unfortunately (in my opinion) this game is very poor with trade-offs. So basically you can choose either. As mentioned above from a pure stats standpoint, Heavy is better because of it's durability.

So that means your sneaky, fast ranger character can easily wear full Deadric. Even though that doesn't make much sense

I guess if you want to role play in this game you have to do it yourself. The game will basically let you do anything.

But there is one point I'm surprised no one mentioned yet (or maybe I missed it). Shield enchanted clothing is arguably better than either light or heavy armor. Since you can get the same armor rating, it does not get damaged in combat, it doesn't need to be repaired, and it doesn't degrade spell effectiveness (which is very important for spells with level limitations, like frenzy or turn undead).

But it the end, the best armor is the one that you like best for your character. (almost, the some of best looking armor in my opinion is Leather and Steel, and both break way to easily at higher levels, though you can enchant them too).
