Problem with vampire quest

Post » Wed Jul 28, 2010 2:09 pm

I have to go to that book store owner, I think his name is Phintias. I need to ask him about Seridur however whenever I ask him about Seridur he tells me he can't discuss customer details with strangers.

I've tried bringing up his disposition, but it comes to a point (54) and then says it has been maxed out and I can't raise it any more.

Can anyone tell me how to get Phintias to spill the beans on Seridur? Do I need higher fame?

You're going to have to bribe him or use a charm spell or scroll to get him up higher than that. He has to be at at least 60 and possibly 70 (I don't recall which) before he'll give out the information.

I think I already bribed him (I gave him a bribe when trying to pursuade him)

Guess I'll have to put it on hold and come back when I get a hold of a charm spell....

Thanks for the help. Least now I know to come back to it later.

Yeah - if you've already done all you can with bribes, then Charm is the only legitimate thing left. There is an exploit you can do that involves talking to him with your weapon drawn, but I'm not sure how it works - I just know it exists.

It's strange, I started playing and attempted to ask Phintias again. Of course he refused to tell me. So then I left and did random things for a well. Eventually I found myself back in the area and decided to try again on the off chance he'd tell me. He actually told me as soon as I asked which was odd.

So I managed to complete the vampire quest.

Good to hear. For any future disposition matter, I usually persuade them as high as I can, then bribe, and then charm. The weapon drawn "exploit" Gpstr was mentioning, involves having your weapon drawn before you talk to someone. With you weapon drawn, it lowers their disposition toward you by 10 pts. So if you've already persuaded someone to the max of your speechcraft skill, exit dialogue with them, pull out your weapon, enter dialogue again and you'll notice that their disposition went down 10 pts. Just persuade them back up for those 10 pts again, exit dialogue, put away the weapon and enter dialogue again. You'll notice that their disposition went up higher than when you first persuaded them without having your weapon drawn.

BTW, to really lay on the charm you can stack charm spells of different names. Don't forget to factor in spell efficiency when wearing armor.

Edit: Removed the spoiler tags. Didn't realize this was no longer in the Oblivion General discussion forum.
