Help in Daggerfall please

Post » Wed Jul 28, 2010 12:22 pm

Hi, so I finally managed to get the daggerfall working on dosbox. Everything works fine during char creation but when I get to de dice roll part, I am unable to distribute my bonus points. I have tried every button, but nothing works. I am playing on a laptop with Estonian keyboard, so maybe I'm missing some keys?
Ps: sorry if my English is too bad :P

You don't need to use any keys, click your mouse pointer onto the boxes on the left side of the screen where it says - str, Int, Wil etc. When you click on them the diamond shaped cursor will move up or down. Click on either end of the diamond shaped cursor to distribute your points.

There's nowt wrong with your English, its better than mine! :P

He meant that he likes each older ES game more than the previous he played. ;)

Estonian if you like to roleplay, you'll love Daggerfall. It is mentioned in the game manual that the Dev team wanted Daggerfall to be as close as possible to a Pen and Paper RPG experience. And they've succeeded. :)

Hoot, looks like my English failed after all :P Anyway, I love it so far, the only problem I have is the controls, can't get used to not having usual w,a,s,d controls:D And the game seems to lag slightly, but it's still very playable :D

Set up the W,A,S,D keys yourself, you can configure any key combination in DF. press the escape key in game - click on controls and add any keys you want :)

You can re-map all the keys, and even navigate with the mouse like in Morrowind and Oblivion, and if you go into fullscreen mode the clunky interface disappears and it's pretty much like the newer games. Now that I ahve played Daggerfall a bit I can see the similarities between it and Oblivion.

As for liking Arena more, I doubt it, Arena has the typical experience based system with no skills, and despite being able to visit all the different provinces it doesn't have the epic feeling of Daggerfall. Also if you choose a class that doesn't weild magic, you can't ever cast a spell. My first character ever in a TES game was a High Elf Rogue with no magicka at all.

Is it normal that there is a slight delay when moving mouse to look around? It doesn't lag, there just seems to be a slight delay.
Oh, and is there any way to change the resolution to wide screen? :P

The delay is normal, increasing the sensitivity usually makes it better thoufh.

All the resolutions are in the DOSBOX.conf file, change it there.

Guys, I have a problem, the game lags horrendously :( I have a core duo 1,86 cpu, is it really not enough to run the emulator correctly? :(

What version of DOSBox are you using? If memory serves, some of the older ones were a lot less efficient, and would never be able to get the game to run well no matter your CPU. I'm pretty sure a Core Duo should be enough with a modern version.

Also, technically, Daggerfall comes at one resolution, which IS 16:10 (aka 8:5 in some places) widescreen, as it runs at 320x200.

As far as the older games go, I doubt you'll like Arena more than Daggerfall, given that Arena wasn't quite like the later three Elder Scrolls games; no class-maker, EXP-based levels, no ability to walk from city-to-city, no guilds or guild questlines, only minimal quests total... A far more limited game. Daggerfall is really where they came to shine, and since then, IMO, they've just watered their games down with each new one.

I'm using dosbox 0.63 because some guy recommended it in his instructions on installing daggerfall. I guess I'll try the latest version and hope it works better :( Even though I only managed to get out of the first dungeon I can't stop thinking about this game. I really liked it. I think I'm that kind of person who would love a game like daggerfall :D
