Actor Fade and realism

Post » Thu Jul 29, 2010 3:28 pm

Playing with Actor Fade 100% I feel like a superhero. I can see a rat one km away from me. Outlaws, creatures and all that moves have one of my arrows in the body before to see me.

Wich % do you play? Note that Im not speaking about performance but about realisme and challenge.

My character is a no-melee (won't touch any weapon except a bow) mystic archer, so she survives based on distance. She runs actor fade at 100% and with up to several hundred feet of detect life. If she sees a foe first, they are toast. It is a good thing becuase she is so fragile that any hint of toe-to-toe fighting is a very dangerous panic for her. In the wilderness, she relies on distance; in dungeons, she relies on stealth to survive.

Yes, the long actor fade helps her. Her fragility compensates for it.

100%

The only thing that bothers me with this setting is that ruins and such just pop up out of nowhere somtimes and that′s not particularly realistic :shakehead:

If you're on the PC you can increase the distance where objects, actors and items will appear. In your ini file, just look for fObjectLODMax and double the value from 15 to 30, then readjust your ingame sliders. There's one for actors and items too. I have mine set for 30 for objects, 20 for actors and 15 for items. There's no effect after 30 that I could notice since it depends on cells that are fully rendered, which is determined by the uGridstoLoad setting. But it's really not a good idea to raise that any higher than it is, as that will cause some bad things to happen in your game.

I always play at 100% no matter the character. I like to see them before they see me.

It's a bit weird to see things at a distance, and have them disappear into the grass as you approach. Particularly noticeable with low creatures like wolves. Yesterday my character killed a couple of conjurers north of Anvil, and left them lying in grass that was so thick you could hardly find the bodies. Later, from a long distance away, she looked back and saw the corpses lying in plain view on the hillside. She wondered if perhaps wolves had dragged the bodies out into the open... :)

If you are using a PC, then open the console and type in tg. That makes finding things easier.

I wasn't trying to find them, though. I was wishing they'd stay lost. ;)
