Why hello there everyone :dance:
this has several questions from a new PC user, which would take up boards such as PC help section, mods, ect ect, so i thought it would be easier to create a single thread in general.

I'm a Fallout 3 player who has spent well over 400 hours on the xbox version, and im buying a new computer soon, and I deeply want to be able to play fallout 3 on it.

first question is, Can fallout 3 run on a Quad-core processor, I heard there is problems running it on anything higher than a Single or duel core. (If it is a problem running it on a Quad-core, could someone please tell me if there is a fix or not. )

Secondly, Im buying the GOTY addition, Im wondering, how do you go about installing the DLC's from the second disk.

Thirdly, I Will be playing on window's 7 which I heard Can cause problems for fallout 3, Is there a fix for this problem? If so, what is it.

My last question currently is, I want to run the G.E.C.K and mods, will Window's 7 or The Quad Core processor, Or the fixes for these, cause any problems for the G.E.C.K or playing mods?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I will have to buy a better graphics card for it, as well as a better power supply.
If someone could inform me about things I would need to buy or change for this machine, It would be greatly helpful.

It will run fine on quad core processors
Once you've installed the game use the seond disc to install
the dlcs it'll put them in the files in the right directory for you
so dont worry, im not to sure about windows 7 but im sure if you
downlod the patches for fallout 3 you'll be fine, hurry up the NV is out soon!

1. You'll probably need to make a simple change in your Fallout ini file which will be located in MyDocuments\MyGames\Fallout 3:

Open up the fallout.ini file with Notepad or Word:
Find the line:
bUseThreadedAI=0
change it to:
bUseThreadedAI=1
Add another line after it and insert:
iNumHWThreads=2

Then just save the file and you're done.

2. Install the second disk then start the game and from the Launcher, select Data Files. Check off the little boxes next to the name of each DLC in there to install the content.

3. Lots of people (including me) run Win 7 with no problems. Problems can usually be tracked back to video drivers, inadequate hardware and other things like that. Some people run into issues with UAC under Vista/Win 7. You'll probably want to install the game outside of the default directory. Make a new folder like C:\Games\Fallout 3 and install it there.

Im wondering what I will have to add or buy to this machine to make it able to play fallout 3, I Think I will have to buy a new graphics card, and a new power supply, If someone could recommend A good graphics card, that would be wonderful

and if there is anything else i would need to buy for make it able to play fallout 3, telling me would be greatly greatly appreciated.


P.S and yes, I realize me knowledge with computers compares to that of a four year old :facepalm:

A new power supply would be usefull for a more powerfull graphics card but the one you have should be fine, although if you wanted better performance yeah change your power supply and get an nvidia 9000 series card or an ati radeon 4650 or beter like the 5000 series
