It's a whole new experience...

I bought TES Oblivion in 2007 right when I got my Xbox 360. No add-ons. I played the game regularly for 3 years. I recently stopped playing it completely a few months ago from being so completely and utterly bored with it that looking at it made me physically ill. Note, I never had any add-ons or expansions. I always wanted one thing though. A castle. I never could get that in vanilla oblivion though... Recently, I bought Oblivion and it's additions for my laptop. Oh boy, it's a whole new experience...

Bottom line: my laptop svcks. It doesn't svck... It's just svcks for gaming. It's not meant for it. It cost me about 400$, your standard laptop. I play other games, World of Warcraft for example, on this laptop and it runs at a steady 20-30 fps on medium graphics. Most of you know WoW's graphics are much worse than Oblivion's. When I got Oblivion at first, I expected it to run very poorly, and I had it on Very low settings for a few days. Guess what, it runs, on this crappy laptop, on ultra-high settings with no problem at all, and this is with a few mods including "Natural Environments".

It's amazing. With the add-ons like Natural Environments, darker dungeons, etc. and the official plug-ins and the Shivering Isles expansion pack, it's a whole new experience. And, after 3 long years... I finally have got a Castle. Battlethorn is truly amazing. I never got Oblivion for my laptop because I thought it wouldn't run well... But, again, I'm still amazed it runs on ultra-high settings on my 400$ wal-mart laptop. So yeah, I am incredibly happy. Through all the plug-ins, mods and Shivering Isles, I'm going to be busy for a very long time... It's like a new game.

WooHoo! I'm glad that you are enjoying the game again, and that it is playing well on your modest laptop. That's amazing! :)

At least you can enjoy at all on your laptop. My mac doesn't have windows on it so I can't play it. I don't want to have to get windows for it so I have to stay in the mediocre world (by comparison) of the PS3.

Not to criticize, but you can get Battlehorn for the Xbox.

I would have, but I never figured out how to connect to XBOX live and I've never bought a Hard Drive so I couldn't

Ah yes, there's the rub. A friend of mine bought Oblivion GOTY for the 360 but hasn't got a hard drive, and as he doesn't want to spend $100 on one, he can't install the expansion(s), which made him abandon the game. That's really sad. :(

I was thinking about getting Morrowind for my laptop. It may be a while but I've never seen the game so the idea is percolating. TES is a great game; so glad you're enjoying it again. :)

I have a PS3 and a laptop that will not run oblivion (I've tried).
I have the knights of the nine and Shivering isles, but none of the official plug-ins, or mods obviously.

The only plug-in I would like to play is the mage tower near Bruma one, but when I get my PC I can this and more.

Yes, Wizard's Tower is a very much worthwhile DLC. :) I say get it, it's great for spellmaking and enchanting without having to join the Mages' Guild. Plus, a laboratory buffing your Alchemy skill, your own indoor garden and portals to all Mages' Guild halls! How badass isn't that? :P

Kind of a similar story here except I stopped playing it for 3 years and played it obsessively for a couple months. My computer cost 2 grand but I screwed it up(at least I thought) my download a bit too much advlt video material and had to reinstall my OS and everything. So I thought it wouldn't run it for all that time then like two months ago I just run system requirements lab and found out it would work fun. And the rest is history... but ya I love it now with mods that completely change the game.

That and Horse Armor is the only dlc I don't have. I'm thinking about getting it for my mage character.

I recommend mage's tower as I had it when I had oblivion on Xbox.
All other buildings make their specific factions feel far greater.
