Interchangeable savegames between PC- and console-versions

Post » Fri Jul 30, 2010 2:49 pm

Hi,

As I play on both PC and consoles I would like to know if Bethesda is looking into the possibility of making the savegames of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim interchangeable between the PC- and console versions?

As far as I recall, Bioware is considering something like that where the savegames would be stored in an online-profile instead of the harddisk. And if you log into the profile, you can just load the savegame no matter if you play on console or the PC.

I think this would be a great idea! This way I could play Skyrim in the evening on XBox in front of my TV and I could also fire it up on PC when I am doing some work at home...

I wouldn't hold my breath for that one. Especially since TES in general is such a popular platform for modding, I doubt the transition to the modless consoles would go over well.

This sounds like something that could work with the PC/MAC/PS3 version if they are going to use Steam. Valve haven't announced any plans for Steamworks on Xbox360 yet, so unless Bethesda made their own implementation of such a system, then you're out of luck.

There was a way to make the Xbox 360 and PC saves compatable in Oblivion, as long as you weren't using mods on the PC. How to do so is listed on www.uesp.net.

I support this. Oblivion 360 savegames could be transferred to PC using some tools, but not vice versa. PS3 was left out completely I think. Having a more reliable and universal system would be nice.

SP games are great for when the net goes down. I don't care what they do (I don't have a console) as long as forcing online is not the norm.

Given the sheer complexity of the game, I imagine this would be a logistical nightmare and will never happen. Nice idea though.

If they ever did do it, I would hope it's an option and not a requirement.

Loading the savegame up to the online-profile could be optional.

On the other hand, forcing savegames to the online profile would be a good new copyprotection-system ;)

Assuming we getting modding support, I suspect they wont do it just due to the number of complaints they'd end up getting from console users breaking their savegames while playing on the PC. I think they'd get a lot of complaints from people that broke their save games by trying mods on the PC. The temptation is just to great to try all those great things you've heard about. Once you've used on mod on your PC, the game wouldn't be playable on the console anymore.

So I can't load up a game if their servers are down? Awesome!
