Description
===========
**REPLACES PREVIOUS MOD "Achievements For All - DLC Edition"**

The Personal Achievements Log tracks your achievements in a handy Quest log even if you're using FOSE or for any other reason don't want to use GFWL.

Details
=======
This mods adds a Quest Log entry that keeps track of all achievements you've gained with your character, essentially eliminating the need to use Games for Windows Live. If you are logged in to GFWL however, achievements will be added both to GFWL and the PAL accordingly.

BE WARNED: This mod works RETROACTIVELY, meaning as soon as you load it on a save game that you've been playing with for a while it WILL detect all the achievements you've gained (or would've gained, if you were logged in to GFWL) and add them! If you DON'T want this to happen, either run your game without GFWL, log out of GFWL or start a new game.

The mod also adds a note with a bit of fluff for immersion and a full listing of all the achievements, their grade, their value and how to obtain them, exactly like the listing in GFWL.

The base of this mod was originally created by Lork (http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7790) but has been heavily modified. Features added that were not present in the original:

* Full DLC Support
* Full compatibility - Compatible with anything and everything! Even Achievement Removers!
* FOSE independence - Doesn't require FOSE, works both with it and without it.
* Retroactive - Finds achievements gained before installing this mods.

Install
=======
1. Extract the files to a temporary location.
2. Copy the \sound folder and the following files to (install folder)\Fallout 3\Data\

-> "PAL - MERGED.esp" - If you have ALL DLC's installed.

-> "PAL - BASE File.esp" - If you have ANY DLC's installed but NOT at the same time as "PAL - MERGED.esp".
-> "PAL - Operation Anchorage.esp" - If you have 'Operation: Anchorage' installed.
-> "PAL - The Pitt.esp" - If you have 'The Pitt' installed.
-> "PAL - Broken Steel.esp" - If you have 'Broken Steel' installed.
-> "PAL - Point Lookout.esp" - If you have 'Point Lookout' installed.
-> "PAL - Mothership Zeta.esp" - If you have 'Mothership Zeta' installed.

*NOTE* If you're using "PAL - MERGED.esp", make sure you ONLY use that .esp!

4. Start Fallout 3 Launcher, click 'Data Files', place a checkmark beside the .esp file(s). Or use FOMM to do the same.

Usage
=====
--> If starting from a new game: Simply play the game! The Quest and Note will be given to you at the same time the Overseer gives you the Pip-Boy.

--> If loading a saved game or starting a new game that bypasses the Vault 101 sequence: A Holodisk can be found just outside the Vault 101 cave, apparently you or someone else dropped it in the haste of escaping from the vault or the schock of meeting the outside world. Pick it up and you'll start recording. Bear in mind that if you've been playing for a while the mod will start adding a lot achievements the first time you activate it. Shouldn't cause any problems but you will get spammed with messages until the mod "catches up".

--> If you're eager to start recording and can't bother to travel to Vault 101: Open the console '`' or '~', type "setStage PALQuest 10" without the quotes and press enter.

REMEMBER: Check the Note given to you! It has more information that it would seem at first glance!

HINT: If you use GFWL but don't want achievements to be "uploaded" to it, simply install an Achievement Remover mod, like http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3813 by JustinOther, the PAL will keep working like normal showing gained achievements, but no Achievements will be stored in GFWL.

Uninstall
=========
1. Start Fallout 3 Launcher, click Data Files, uncheck the .esp file(s).
2. Delete the files/folders associated with the mod.

Fallout 3\Data\sound\fx\PAL\bleepbloop.wav
Fallout 3\Data\PAL - MERGED.esp
Fallout 3\Data\PAL - BASE File.esp
Fallout 3\Data\PAL - Operation Anchorage.esp
Fallout 3\Data\PAL - The Pitt.esp
Fallout 3\Data\PAL - Broken Steel.esp
Fallout 3\Data\PAL - Point Lookout.esp
Fallout 3\Data\PAL - Mothership Zeta.esp

Incompatibility
===============
This mod is entirely scripted and uses only it's own created resources so it's compatible with ANY other mod. But you shouldn't use it with "Achievements for All" or "Achievements for All - DLC Edition" since this mod already incorporates those features.

Known Issues or Bugs
====================
Unfortunately there is no way of sorting quest objectives so the order of the achievements will depend on the order you gained them. No other know issues.

History
=======
1.2, 2010/02/24 - Small fix in Quest trigger that on rare occations would not give out the quest.
- Made mod name more consistent now only called "Personal Achievements Log"
- Updated "Legal" with Lork recognition.
1.1, 2010/02/23 - Fixed "infite update" bug
1.0, 2010/02/23 - Initial release.

It doesn't seem to do anything here. When does it start exactly? This is not with a new game btw.

Don't mind me - I can't read. :embarrass: I had to use setstage tho - couldn't find any holodisks.

You couldn't find the holodisk? It should be there, leaning on one of the wooden beams, the one on the right when looking at the door. This is OUTSIDE the Vault 101 cave, not outside the main vault door. Maybe I should've been clearer on that.

The setstage does the same thing really, but it's not as immersive as actually picking up the holodisk :).

Sure enough - there it was. I'm blind too apparently.

Seems to like the Bog Walker achievement considering it hasn't stopped updating :lol:

It's up to 112.

Any fix?

Damn.. Sorry about that.. Apparently I missed a couple of "infinite update" bugs.. Squashing them as we speak. Fix up in 10 minutes..

EDIT: Btw.. Did you actually COUNT the updates?! I admire your dedication :P.

I was just curious they way this is done, would it be possible to create or make your own achievements? It would be cool of we could make new achievements. For example, achievements for WMK, You have modded so many weapons. Its not really meaning anything, but it would be cool just for bring mods into the whole achievement process.

P.S. Now that I can actually track the achievements in game. I am going to download this as soon as I get our of work, so in about 10 hours from now. Wish I hadn't read this, getting impatient.

I was planning on doing something like that. In fact it's very easy to add new achievements to this mod and it can easily be made modular such as adding individual achievement packs as separate .esp's (which is what I've done with the DLC's).

I'll be looking into that today! Not played with too many mods though so suggestions are welcomed. I'll look into WMK to begin with.

Also as you know, right now each achievement is displayed as an uncompleted quest objective. I decided to make it that way so that the quest log didn't get as cluttered and the achievements were easily visible (not greyed out). However, what would you think of the opposite? I.e. actually having ALL achievements displayed from the beginning in the quest log and mark achievements completed when gained. (see http://calero.se/fo3/logupdated.jpg) This makes the log very long though..

EDIT: Small update up! >>http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11326<<

Sounds like a good Idea, to keep it the way you have it now, where they show up as uncomplete quest objective, easier to look at then a long list.

If you need any ideas for modded achievements or any help just let me know, this is already one of my must have mods, and I havent even downloaded it yet. message me here or on fallout3nexus, my username is the same in both places.

Thanks! I'll definitely keep that in mind! For the moment I'm taking it slow, playing the game a bit :). But I've taken a look at WMK and added an achievement that is gained when 20 weapon modifications have been made. Just as a proof of concept really, haven't played with WMK yet (will from now on though!), so I don't know if 20 is too many or too few.. Again though, I do welcome suggestions on other mods to add achievements for, or other achievements to add to WMK (although what more can you add to it..).

I'm planning on making a modders resource, in other words a small guide, that any mod creator can use if they want to add achievements to their mod.

I'm also messing around with adding a store for achievement points. I've already created the scripts for counting "Achievement Points" but I just don't know what I would put in that store if I would create it... I mean, there are so many mods that add great Perks, weapons, armors, etc.. so what could my mod provide that theirs don't? Ideas welcomed..

Love the idea of the mod, especially when I cant log in to GFWL because I play on FOSE - another thing though, I noticed that you used Oblivion\data in installation guide instead of fallout, hehe :P

All wonderful ideas. I like the store idea, get one of a kind items you can only get by using achievements points to gain them

I would try to cover the big mods.
Marts Mutant Mod - RC 5
Weapon Mod Kits
FOOK2 RC v1-0
Enclave Commander 090
FWE - FO3 Wanderers Edition

Now I know that's alot, but later tonight, I planned on snooping through what you did and try to make a few myself, I have beat the game some many times with all kinds of mods. So Now I just spend time looking for things to do. Making my own achievements for my character sounds like fun.
If I like what I make I will send them your way and you can ignore or add them if you want.

PS I just picked those mods because they are in the first 20 on fallout3nexus by endorsemants.

For the store. my main suggestion would be, allow them to be able to trade achievement points for caps. I don't know how many people play on very hard with FWE, FOOk 2 and MMM with Increase Increase Spawns, but I know I go through caps and ammo like they were candy.

I am a scripter so I can try and come up with some pretty nifty things with scripts. Haven't worked to much with scripting in Fallout 3 yet, just a little to get familiar with it.

############
Just going to say this even though I have no idea how it happened and why i cant make it happen again

Since I have finally gotten able to actually download you mod, right after I installed it I was missing meshes and everyone weapons weren't working. I couldn't think of a reason why your mod would even do this. But the game engine also handles things odd. I moved your mod all the way to the top of my load list and restarted the game from my save. All my meshes were back. So I was curious about what it conflicted with and after spending 30 minutes moving you mod one by one down my mod list back to where it was and then all the way to the bottom, I have come to realize just as I thought it doesn't conflict with any other mod.

That's some good suggestions there. Those are indeed some of the mods I've been keeping my eyes on and I'd be happy to receive some of your homemade achievements!

The problem with giving out caps or ammo in the store is that if people are NOT using some of the mods that make caps and ammo scarce the caps will be virtually worthless as they are pretty easy to come by in the default set up. I will think about it though. I'm also trying to think on how I could make the store more immersive and not something totally strange. I mean, why would anyone give out free stuff to someone simply because that person has been doing a bunch of random stuff? Well, my thought went pretty soon to an "Explorers league" or "Storytellers Club" (just example names :P). They could easily be tied with the achievement justifying the fact that each achievement could certainly make for a good story to tell! I loved for example how you could tell "your story" to one of the kids in Lamplight Cavern and that it would actually change depending on how long in the main quest line you've played.

Well, that is strange indeed! I hope you find out what the culprit was because I have no clue! I can't think of anything in my mod that would cause that.. But then again I don't know the game engine well enough to be certain it wasn't my mod... Worrying for sure. If it ever happens again please let me know!

Good point on the caps, I tend to forget that sometimes. I would say go with the story telling idea, It sounds more immersive that someone is hearing about the things you wanted to do and whats to share his or her prizes that he or her learned when they were an adventure.

So basically an old person(because no one really adds an old people and besides the few you see fallout looks like a young place.) that has done everything the player has and more, The old person(storyteller person) has heard about you and wants to reward you with a gift that got when the were younger.

Just a quick little background. Its not perfect but thats how I see it. If you had help you could probably even load that person up with dialog about stories. for example

He/She could tell you about the time when he/her was in a small encampment of super mutant when all of the sudden two behemoths came crashing through the walls of a neighboring building....etc.

Um, I have spare time today. So I dont hope you mind at me picking away at your scripts and looking through what you and Lork have done. I will make a quick achievement and see what I can do.

I like that idea! In my head I saw someone like Nathan being the old guy you mention :) I'll see what I can do with that. And please, be my guest to tinker around with the mod as much as you like! And let me know if anything in the code is unclear.

Return to Fallout 3
