Minigames?

Post » Sun Aug 01, 2010 4:36 am

I think it would be really awesome if minigames were implemented into TES: V.
I know from personal experience that it would add hours of play time into the game for me.

If so, what do you think would be an interesting game?

Here's a few:
Mead drinking contest
Tavern card games
Axe-throwing contest

There will of course be something for lockpicking - Oblivion, F3 and FNV all have them.

Minigames do add something. I loved hacking in Fallout 3.

I especially loved blackjack in NV.
However bethesda and obsidian are two different companies. But I sure hope they have tavern games, horse races or something.

Mini-games in the vein of actual games (some tavern games, etc.), I'd be okay with. Mini-games tied to skills, as in lock picking mini-games, I'd really rather not have them.

yeah i don't think he means minigames like lockpicking.

anyways i agree with you on everything you mentioned (i can tell you're getting into the lore with the axe throwing haha)

but i also think there should be...
-liars dice
-painting
-arm wrestling
and all of the things mentioned in the GI article like blacksmithing, farming, mining and what not.

Not ones that require new HUD elements (like the disposition system in Oblivion for example).

Exactly =)

When I think of Nords I think contests of strength like bear wrestling. The possibilities are endless! XD

I'd like for them to keep the Lock-picking mini game just make it real time and not pause the game. Make it almost impossible to get through if lower than skill and somewhat helpful at required skill and then pretty easy if higher than required skill.

But NO speech wheel.

And yes to drinking, die, and card games.

Yes if not skill related, like speechcraft minigame of oblivion.

Something like this:

  • You can challenge people to race with you to a destination, by any means.
  • You can join a local village contest to do a simple task, and a reward for the winner.
  • Duels with other people, like blade to blade, or spell to spell.
  • Like "Conan the Barbarian", join full contact local fights in each settling, and win the tournaments.
  • Offer to teach a skill to a person for a price, and spar with him for a while.
  • A kind of table top game, regular in Skyrim taverns.
  • A very special minigame which I will describe here:

There can be a minigame which is kinda interesting.

There can be special randomly generated/populated complex dungeons/caverns, full of hostile opponents and traps, scaled to difficulty level of the contest, and some people offer to join the contest, and the winner is rewarded, by an item scaled to the difficulty of the contest.

Each contestant wears a simple rag cloth, and is allowed to use a basic weapon/offensive spell, and starts in a random place inside the dungeon, and the goal is to remain the only alive/conscious contestant after a while, so you can actively seek and kill/disable the other contestants, or try to lead them to traps/opponents, and you can seek and find better equipment for the task, or learn about the traps and how they can be useful for your goal, and so on...

If you can eliminate all the other contestants while avoiding/removing local hostile elements, and be the last surviving one, then you are released from the dungeon. Your new equipment/learned spells is replaced with your original ones, before the contest, and you are awarded with a new item/spell or gold of your choice, scaled to the difficulty level of the contest.

You can start with easier contests, and move up to become the champion of it all.

I think a game of riddles based on lore that is found in books scattered around the game. While multiple choice would work the best I'd suggest you have to look through all the answers to possible questions instead of two or three choices.

Tournaments catering to the lore of skyrim. like maybe a sandy pit with a croud instead of a roman based collisuem or medieval jousts.

Card games, lockpicking and other technical mini games.

Not persuasion from Oblivion.

Don't know how it was dealt with in Morrowind, but the lock-picking from Oblivion was done pretty good and should reprise in Skyrim. Been playing Oblivion since the summer of '07 and I still don't understand the persuasion mini-game, leave it out.
