If Oblivions super-speed-demon timescale continues in Skyrim 1 week sounds just ok.

Preferably not named NPCs, which I hope make a return in Skyrim, as opposed to the generic 'Bandit,' or 'Necromancer.'

But yes, generic NPCs and creatures should respawn, unless you complete destroy an entire cave of any traces of life. Then, maybe not for a long time or ever. I don't know, a mix between Morrowind and Oblivion would be good.

As long as it is measured not by game days but by actual play time. If you find a bandit with a nice steel sword and you want to dual wield them you shouldn't be able to just keep pressing the wait button until 7 days have passed in a matter of minutes. I would rather have to wait an actual time limit.

There should definatly be respawns. However like Orphanix said maybe if you wipe out an entire cave of Bandits for example that cave wont be populated again since you have completely destroyed a gang with no surviving members to carry on. Or at the very least the cave might respawn but with animals or mythical creatures instead now that the human presence is no longer there.

nah empty dungeons are boring and i like to battle people npc's a lot more than monsters or animals.

id be happy with 3 days to 1 week. though if its a cave or ruin i would like to maybe see something else spawn. like i come across a cave of bandits and clear it out.... a week later i could return and find it inhabited by goblins, or trolls, or maybe even the bandits again but risen back to life by a necromancer.

I didnt mean that it would be like that for every cave or dungeon just ones where the group of people in them was a small group with out connections to say a much larger organization. However for example if you discover a cave with bandits and eliminate them but they were part of a larger group then maybe there associates would repopulate the cave to carry on the work being done there .

The gameworld gets empty too fast without respawns, but they should vary it a bit and time should be randomly.

I'd personally like to see a variety of re-spawn times.

3 days for water and air dwelling creatures, fish and birds
1 week for wilderness roaming creatures, deer, elk, all 1-3 opponent hostiles
1 month for cave/dungeon dwelling creatures, hostile and non-hostile living or undead
3 months for new cave/fort/camp/ruin group occupancy. Bandits, Necromancers and the like.
