Better Caldera

Post » Tue Aug 03, 2010 6:46 pm

Okey so I'm talking about the mod "Better Caldera" which were released 2004. I've edited this mod much to my liking, and I had hoped that I would be able to contact the author for permission to include this somehow in my "New Cities Project". Since Loki, the author of this mod don't seem to be active anymore (might be wrong), and there's no way to contact him, I'm kinda stuck with this mod for personal use. What do you guys think, what should I do?

As you're aware, releasing it without permission would be frowned upon. Unless someone knows of Loki's thoughts on how freely he'd let his mod be altered.
Any clue in the ReadMe of any of his mods on how he felt about that?

If you really feel inclined to share it, perhaps just do it here on the forum without having it hosted on any official mod site. That way you can control it's distribution, while making it clear that it's your version of Loki's mod.

No, there's no writings about how he feel regarding this. No mail, no profile or what so ever. I guess he left when he finished this, never heard of the guy before. Anyway I'll keep this thread open for discussion, perhaps he will show up, or anyone who know him :)

Personally, I think it's OK to publish the mod as long as the original author is credited in the read me. He or she left no instructions in their read me regarding permissions or restrictions. Attempts to contact the author have failed. The original author's community persona is dead. So, all rights revert to the community.

Even if the author's persona returns, how do we know that it is the original author? While the identity of some modders is known, most are anonymous.

Why not just do your own Caldera mod?

Why not just do your own Caldera mod?

Cause I consider his work to be close to my vision of what Caldera should have looked like. My version will include many "fixes" for both interior and exterior, and will remove the lag-issues (at least for me). It could be considered as a "lite" version of Better Caldera, with some additions. I thought I could raise the question if I should include it in my work or not. The author will ofc be given proper credit for his mod. :)

I did a search around the internet and found another mod made by "Loki the Grouch" who is listed as the author of Better Caldera.

I managed to find "Pelegiad Home" and in the readme for this mod he included some contact details.

Created by Matthew Walker aka Loki the Grouch

If you want to contact me about this plugin, please do so by sending me an instant message over AIM. My screenname is Lokisigel. I'm also a member of the Elderscrolls.com forum; feel free to pm me there (username is tx365).

Hope that helps. :)

I'm with Horny Buddha on this one. If Loki DOES come back and is upset that you're distributing an altered version of his mod, you can pull it down. If you do end up distributing your version of Better Caldera, make sure to put down on any sites you upload it to that you're willing to pull it if Loki finds out and isn't pleased.

I've always thought along these lines as well.
