I don't get it...

They say they care and listen to what the fans say, but if that were true, then why announce a game when its too late to make any major changes to it?

Seems like a business strategy more than actually caring about what fans think.

Let's see.... When did they start working on the game? When did the suggestions for ESV start in the forums? [Oblivion released March 21st 2006, iirc.] Suggestions started no later than March 22nd, 2006 and went through dozens of threads. The devs were reading the forums. How do you know they didn't listen to some of the suggestions? Just because they didn't post doesn't mean they weren't reading.

Although I'm rather pleased they ignored the multiplayer/online ones.

Judging by the other forums i've looked at half of all the suggestions would be make Morrowind 2. Sorry but that game was made already. So were Oblivion and Daggerfall. If they're so good ,then play them. I for one am looking forward to whatever the guys who made me really happy by making Oblivion and Fallout 3 decide to throw at us. They are professionals , good at what they do, and I trust them to make a great game. Not completely of course, 200 MS points for horse armour and all that but hey I didn't pay for that

Eh.

Most fan 'Suggestions/Ideas' are incredibly stupid.

Pretty much =/ Though occasionally you get some valid and interesting ideas.

Well making a comparison with other developers I would say that Bethesda is right in the middle.
They listen what fans say,and do some of those things.
At the same time Bioware makes almost everything the fans ask for at their forums, while Nintendo completely ignores the requests from fans.

Bioware - Bethesda - Nintendo.

I'm O.K. with Bethesda,they are not extreme.

Many of my suggestions from the well-over-a-hundred suggestions threads were implemented if I read the GI article right. But why listen to fans? Why? It's like user-created content. I'd rather have someone professional make the decisions.

Especially since every single piece of information about any TES game ever has resulted in some group shouting "ruined FOREVER!" Why deliberately cater to a fanbase so notoriously divided on every single point instead of just making the game you want to make? I know Bethesda can make a good game and now that I know they're this far in I'm content to let them do their jobs.

This , we are such a split fanbase , we don't want all the same stuff and someone is going to say at ever TES game that a certain mechanic or mechanics ruined it . Bethesda is most likely trying to please the most of us and for the multiplayer TES game well we got Zenimax online for that so people have to be patient .

Exactly. Why would professional game designers listen to some random, mostly useless, ideas.

Although I'm not saying that all are bad, some are good.

This is true aswell, I remember reading some of suggestion threads and the posts were ether three things.
1. Repeated stuff that has been asked in every thread from the beginning : aka spears , quests with multiple ends and other ideas said over and over again.
2. Stupid stuff
3. A truely unique idea that is great but most likely is overlooked and posted rarely.

Indeed. So many Elder Scrolls fans want so many different things. Not to mention we all disagree on what we want. Our opinions are scattered at best.

We are a tough crowd.

Same way I feel, like I said we are not all going to to have the same tastes. You might like Oblivion but not morrowind .....you get the picture.
