As you probably already know, buying any game ( even these days ) still don't mean that it will run for SURE
on your machine even that you have one of the newest CPU, fast memory, high rpm HDD,or the best graphic card....
And you know the feeling, that instead of enjoying the game, there could be suffer, anger and disappointment....
I know how svck that feeling could be and that's why I'll try to help at least some of you, who trying to run
the Fallout 3 on Windows7 64bit.....
OK,..here we go: Rule absolute # 1
Make sure that ""ALL"" drivers are up to date, specially if you change or upgraded something in your hardware or system.
Up to date firmware, drivers and critical updates for CD/DVD/BD/ROM, graphic card, sound card, but sometimes also for
motherboard, or mouse and operating system are very important.
If you can, and you know how, check time after time and make sure that also all your HARDWARE parts in your
machine work's properly too....
One's i had a big headache because one of my computers keep freezing in games , there were also blue screens
and unexpected shut down's, and after many hours of reinstalling driver's and checking the system, i find that
the problem is NOT the game or the system i was running, but one of the memory modules just stop working.....
Another time one of the reading/writing tiny heads on my HDD broke down and that's also tricky to find out....
These things don't happen very often, all I'm saying is : Be sure EVERYTHING on your system, but also on your
hardware work's the way it should be....
Now the Fallout 3 and Windows 7/64bit.
It is possible to play the game in Windows 7, 64bit, even if the Fallout 3 HAVEN'T BEEN DESIGN FOR
WINDOWS 7 ORIGINALLY and it's sometimes hard to find support.... ( on Windows 7/64bit specially )
Fallout 3 supporting officially the windows XP and Vista, but not the Windows 7, because in time the game
was out there was no Windows 7 yet...
Fallout was released in North America on October 28, 2008, and Windows 7 was released to manufacturing
on July 22, 2009 and reached general retail availability on October 22, 2009.
Now...i had freezing problems with Fallout 3 too....
I thought, that it happened because of Windows 7, or because of it's 64bit version...
It's always happened in different places in the game, and shortly after I start playing, from any save.
I could not figure it out for while, but here is the "TIP" for everybody with similar problems....
If you using Windows 7/64bit operating system, and you have enough memory, good graphic card
and all drivers up to date, BUT you also have intel core Atom, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, Itanium,
Pentium 4 and Xeon CPUs............ there could be your problem.......
As you probably know these CPU's has among other a function's a function called "CORE MULTI PROCESSING"
and also "INTEL DYNAMIC ACCELERATION MODE".... or HTT - Hyper-Threading Technology
Now, what is it ? And why a problem ?
Windows CPU manufacturers Intel but also AMD are expanding performance capabilities of new processor technology
with hyper-threading and multi-core processors. Hyper-threading is a way to virtualize two processors on a single
physical core and is not to be confused with process threads, which may be a feature of an application.
Hyper-threading improves system performance by allowing the operating system to run two independent processes
apparently simultaneously on a single physical core. Multi-core processors provide more than one core on a single
physical processor socket and are therefore a way to package more capacity on a system. Multi-core processors
improve system compute capacity by making each core available as an independent CPU. Both technologies add
available compute power to a system, but do not guarantee an application will use it......
BUT DO NOT GUARANTEE AN APPLICATION ( or games ) WILL USE IT !!!
Hyper-threading requires not only that the operating system support multiple processors, but also that it be specifically
optimized for HTT, and Intel recommends "DISABLING" HTT when using operating systems THAT HAVE NOT
been so optimized. So, "CORE MULTI PROCESSING" and also "INTEL DYNAMIC ACCELERATION MODE"....
or HTT - Hyper-Threading Technology....
These functions, which should actually improve your system and general performance, may be THE
REASON you can't play your Fallout 3.....
But the good new is,........you can try, and turn them temporarily off. At least for time you will be in
Fallout World....
OK, how is done ? From BIOS.
Every time your computer starts, before it will load Windows you have the option to go to the "bios"(setup enter)
Usually you need hit the key F2 ......and ...bingo! You are in the main frame of your supercomputer in BIOS,
just like the one's in Fallout.... : )
You should use keyboard arrows to move around to your ADVANCE or PERFORMANCE menu in BIOS main window,
depend on what BIOS you have.
Anyway,...the name of the menu is, you looking for CORE MULTI PROCESSING"
or "INTEL DYNAMIC ACCELERATION MODE".... or HTT - Hyper-Threading Technology in your sub menu.
And when you find it.....simply turn it off.
Read in smaller window on right, what options you have and proceed to disable it.
Then press SAVE and EXIT key (don't forget to save it before you exit) and let the computer to restart and
load Windows.
After you do so, you should be able to play our beloved Fallout 3....
PS: Don't worry about the bios, you can any time go back there, and turn it back on the HTT or multi CP or
intel DAM modes,.... and if it's OFF while you playing Fallout,....?
Well, I using this "TIP" for more than a year, and it never hurt my system or anything on my computer.
The Intel actually recommends that the HTT is off for applications which it's not supporting it...
Hopefully this will help many of you the enjoy your Fallout 3. So, good luck, and see you around on
Fallout world...... : )
