Has a fix been found for the HDR issue in SLI / CF?

Post » Thu Aug 05, 2010 2:17 pm

I remember I had posted in a very old thread about this problem, probably more than a year ago.

Basically when you have more than one GPU rendering graphics, and enable HDR the screen flickers from light to dark while moving your character making the game unplayable.

Anyway that thread had gone long and unsolved and I gave up and since the problem was only on my laptop (with SLI 8800M GTX) I hadn't bothered much and played the game on my desktop on the 8800GT.

I was thinking the problem was Nvidia-SLI related but when I upgraded my desktop 8800GT to a 5970 (single card with 2 graphics processing unit) I found that now I got the problem on the desktop as well! :(

So, since I didn't find anything using the search function, during my absence has any solution been found to this bug? I'm pretty sure it isn't something the graphic card vendors should fix - it persisted on both my nvidia cards and my amd card no matter how many drivers I tried out...

I just re-installed FO3 myself..and am still getting this problem, Especially in the skybox.

At first I thought it may have to do with glare reflecting from objects...but I never had this problem on 8800GTX. Turning off HDR fixes it..but who wants to turn HDR off ?

I have a 5970..

It is pretty unplayable...!!! Almost tempted to buy a single GPU....I don't want this happening in New Vegas ! I will not stand for that.

The only reason I'm not more mad is that I already finished the game on my 8800 GTX.

Messing with settings does nothing...

And your right it only affect dual card set ups...

@OP....

Here you go....just found it and it works...!!!

Go into Fallout 3 folder and find a .dll called atimgpud.dll...and rename it. Restart game.

Only works for Cross Fire and the 5970....

Just played for a few minutes and it seems to be working fine...the annoying skybox flickering is gone.

Will report back if anything bad happens...

Now I have to re download all the DLCs...

This fix seems to work for the 5770 in crossfire too. HDR was very very bright and the skybox flickering was really annoying, glad this fixed it :)

Thanks!

Gee thanks!!!

I haven't tested it out yet though.

Sad there isn't a fix for Nvidia SLI...... but hopefully it will work for the 5970.

About renaming the atimgpud.dll you mean rename it to anything?

I tried the fix on the laptop (nvidia sli) but sadly it didn't work. I have to try it on the desktop (got a 5970 with 2 gpu's) but I won't have access to desktop for the next 2 weeks...

A curious thing is that if I install the game (disk 1 of GOTY) and don't install any dlc's, and don't download any updates I don't get this flickering problem at all.

So I'm pretty sure it was caused by some patch or dlc.

However it's no fun playing only half the game without any dlc :(

nvidia

im not sure if this is the same problem i have when im in game i get a box flicker at the top right of the screen showing the game menu screen about every 15 seconds causing the game to shudder when moving it did'nt do this when the game first came out so i soon worked out to go back to the driver at the time 181.20 and the game is fine every driver since then has had the same problem or worse i run 3way Sli using 280's it dosen't matter if i take it out of Sli i would have the same problem so if this is you then try that driver it still plays everything fine with out bugs in other games

oh im windows7 64 bit and im sure it did it on vista 64 bit also
