Elder Scrolls Movie

I think it would be silly to have the same actor for all persons of each race.

I would only watch it if MK and Ted made it. :)

I voted I don't know. Because it could either be really great or incredibly bad.

But I don't know if i'd prefer an acted movie, or an animated one.

Yes if it would be a movie with actors, not animated.

So you hear about the TES movie being about the Dunmer orphan Reymas of Ashborne, who was the only survivor of a shipwreck on a remote island as a newborn (literally born during the storm that crashed the ship) and raised by an imperial-separated tribe of sea elves who are eventually massacred by what seems to be some warlock and his band of pirates who show up looking for Reymas as he is the last line of some crazy lineage and was found with this incredibly powerful amulet in his bassinet...during the fray he manages to steal a lifeboat and miraculously makes it to Cyrodiil where he is mistaken for another prisoner and thrown in the prison where he wakes up to meet the emporer barging into his cell etc etc etc...that isn't how you imagined it, is it? So you're gonna be disappointed.

You summed up my feelings on this perfectly. Many of us are very attached to our characters. I'm one that already sees the game as a movie playing out in my imagination starring my player-character and I know I'm not the only person who does that. If an actual movie were to be made a lot of us would come away feeling let down because the hero didn't match what we envisioned or they handled things differently than our characters would have.

So as much as I love the Elder Scrolls universe, I have to join in with those who say no. I would not want to see a movie made.

Uwe Boll. I think I've made my point. Even if it wasn't picked up by him it would have a nil chance of succeeding as a good movie.

Oh gawd I really hope he doesn't read these boards... no telling what thoughts may come in his head...

I'm not opposed to the idea of TES as a cinematic narrative. However.

As people have pointed out, video games rarely, if ever, make a proper transition to film.

But let's fantasize. Let's say we have, idk, Martin Scorcesse, or some other big name director who is not Emmerich, Lucas, Spielburg, or Bay. Someone with talent, not a bunch of money they got from when they made good movies.

Then, you get a cast of either well known actors with talent, or relatively unknowns with talent. I honestly have been very impressed by DiCaprio, maybe Djimon Honsou as a Redguard, (they were both in Blood Diamond so they've worked together) Daniel Craig as a woodelf...idk.

Point is...either it's going to be loaded with CGI (bad) or Bruce Willis is going to get green facepaint and prosthetic tusks. Dicaprio will get whiskers and a tail....it's just too damn cartoonish.

So, an animated movie not unlike Avatar would maybe be the best, which will help capture the "video game" feel, but ugh...I didn't see that movie for a reason, although, I can't say it wasn't the animation that bothered me the most.

The whole appeal of the tes universe is the depth of the lore behind the games and the freedom they give you as a the player. Movies are always simplifications of the stories they portray, that's just part of the medium, so it isn't a great match.

Maybe (just maybe) if they make an hbo series or an epic lotr style trilogy with ground breaking cgi, it could be passable.

I'd be fine with a Movie, but NOT the Infernal city. I'd love to see They Eye of Argonia.

With the right producers and director, enough money, talented actors and a great story, yes. Basically if done right, yes.

But I doubt they would do it right... <_<

edit: heh, it seems uwe boll utterly destroyed any chances of a game based movie to be taken seriously.

Yeah Uwe Boll should be tossed off a mountain for his history of work. On second though if you made the tes IV darkbrother hood quest a movie it would probably work pretty well. It has violence, murder, cultism and a pretty good twist ending so why not.

No. TES the fiction has been distorted enough by the games. I still like my precious mental images of the creatures and beings in "Infernal City". What I'm scared would happen is that it gets directed by some Indie guy (which it would be) and he would go crazy mucking with stuff. That or... *shudders* Spielberg. Great director, but not for TES.

That's why I suggested the Eye of Argonia: everything about it is a mystery and so he hardley have any mental images of it
