Making or breaking Brink

Post » Sat Aug 07, 2010 10:06 am

I know that there are probably threads about whether or not Brink will have a demo and/or beta but my worry is that not many people seem to know about this game and am wondering if anyone else is as worried about this as I am.

As an Xbox 360 gamer most people end up playing the FPS that all of their friends are playing, regardless of whether or not it's REALLY the game they want to be playing. Bethesda Softworks usually does really well at getting their games which aren't typical mainstream games to the mainstream (Most people who would never play and RPG or action/adventure game have played oblivion and/or fallout), and I am wondering if they will publicize Brink enough. I'd love to see commercials but I doubt that that's viable and am praying for an Xbox Live Demo, just worried that this game isn't getting the attention that I feel it deserves.

[Side Note: My favorite shooter ever (don't laugh) was Shadowrun, and this game has a lot of elements that remind me of shadowrun from the map art, to the cartoonie realism of the characters and adding new action abilities that add depth to the game (SMART in Brink, hang gliders/misting ect in SR). Shadowrun fell apart fast and I think that at least a decent piece of the problem was that the game didn't have the following it deserved - which was for a whole other set of reasons]

People around the forums are asking if there will be DLC and wondering if the game will be taken care of as far as patching ect and those questions are questions we all have but they stem from copies sold. The more games are sold and the more active the community is the more likely you are to receive patching and DLC. Everywhere I look I find Brink getting solid reviews, but it seems that not many people know about it. Which is scary when It's Q1 2011 and the game is set to release Q1 2011.

To be honest, I'm sick of Call of Duty and just want to play something else and it's so damn hard to get people off Black Ops and I want so bad for Brink to do that and I pray to god gamesas & Splash Damage will do everything in their power to do so. (I'll pitch in for TV time ;))

Maybe it's just because there isn't a solid release date and things will change closer to release? Thoughts? Feel free to tell me I'm overreacting.

You kind of are overreacting. Since you are new its ok since this has already been discussed to death. We don't know if there will be a demo but there is a limited European Beta on the PS3.

No, I am not. I think it follow the Boderlands route - most of its hype came post-launch from good reviews and word of mouth.

Plus, they are adding things in it to appeal to a wide range of players, like character creation, leveling up, unlocking gear, merging single and multiplayer, co-op and bot support, and everyone is curious to see how SMART works. I think will do fine. I also think a demo would be beneficial to release.

I know the game will appeal to the masses just hoping it will reach the masses. Borderlands hype did come post release, that's a good point.

I rather have a small but good community/playerbase than a huge and annoying one.
I don't want to be called cheater/hacker, just because I play better than some. I also don't want to be called noob, when I'm not playing as much as others, just because I don't have the time for it (Yea, Real life ownz)

This game is developed by SplashDamage by the way. Bethesda is the publisher.

I love shadowrun, too bad it had to compete with Halo 3 and I think CoD 4/GTA IV as well.

Well, I don't think the sales have to be through the roof for it to get DLC and maintenance, but having said that, the more attention it gets from the sales the more attention it will be given for maintenance...
But hey, as long as there's at least two people I know in person that play this thing and as long as I can find a match I'm happy...but I seriously doubt that this game will be neglected by the majority, whether it gets attention through pre-release advertising or by the post-release reviews, it'll get the attention it deserves...
