Hum, so has anybody in the history of morrowind modding tried to replace each and every head/face individually? I know Westly is working on a head replacer (I think it's westly) but I don't even think his actually gives each NPC their own personal face.

Yes, at least "Changing Faces" by Leeloo, and "NPC Makeover" by Tarnsman attempt to do that.
If you haven't seen the http://www.gamesas.com/?showtopic=994490&hl= it may be of interest.

Sure, several times. Leeloo's Changing Faces and THE Facepack Compilation/NPC Makeover are most notable of later ones. I can't guarantee that they give a personal face to *each* NPC including every meager Hello-Bob-Farewell-Bob type cave bandit, but practically every city and major Ashlander camp are covered.

For every single NPC? Quite a pain in the rump, that. There are over 3,000 NPCs in the GOTY edition.

There are things out there such as Better Heads which try to give as many NPCs as possible unique faces, but even if you stitch nearly every NPC replacer together (which I'm attempting for myself because I'm a nutcase) there still aren't enough faces and hairs to make everyone 100% unique.

I know I'm sort of raising this topic from the dead but being new to Morrowind like I am, I have just recently discovered this mod and have a question that I could not find previously asked. I downloaded VVV1 off of PES and copied it into my Data Files folder but when I fired up my game the new heads would not show up (no other headpacks/replacers are installed). I checked and re-checked the readme file and I did everything right and all of the files appear to have merged correctly... but it is still not working! ARGH the frustration!Any help would be awesome!STP

Could someone take a look at this question and see if it is answerable or if I'm just going crazy! haha thanks.

It's a straight replacer, there's pretty much only 2 things that can go wrong: the files ended up in the wrong place (check for a "Data Files/Data Files" directory or a "Data Files/Textures/Textures" ... you get the idea), or else for some reason you don't have "TryArchiveFirst=0" set in your [General] section of Morrowind.ini. I don't really know of any other possible snafus.

The files are definitely in the right place and I checked my Morrowind.ini and went to that line and it is "TryArchiveFirst=0"... What the heck is going on? Thanks for the quick response though and hopefully someone has some other troubleshooting ideas.

Are you sure you only have one "Data Files" directory? If you're on Vista/Win7, the OS may be stashing added plugins in appdata or something like that. Seems like the current advice is to install Morrowind outside of "Program Files" to avoid OS shenanigans with older apps.

A third possible thing that can trip up straight replacers is if you are using the Steam version of Morrowind. In order to allow replacers to work, the bsa archives installed by Steam need to be redated to year 2002.

See the http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1105452-morrowind-graphics-extender-mge/ for a more detailed explaination - look under the F.A.Q for:
Q: I have the Steam version of Morrowind, how do I get MGE to work with it?

The advise applies to non-MGE setups as well. :sleep:

I only have one Data Files directory so it has to be the right one... unless my OS is really pulling something over on me. Which is possible because it's Vista haha.

@tetchy

I am at work now but I will try that when I get home and see if it solves my problems because I am running the Steam version.

Yeah, oversight on my part, I forgot about Steam. Steam unfortunately changes the dates on files in "Data Files" and that will have this unfortunate consequence. Somebody oughtta get them to fix it.

Thanks for the help though, I could've saved a lot of time if I just mentioned I had the stupid Steam version. Crossing my fingers that this will work this afternoon.
