firing followers

Post » Sun Aug 15, 2010 1:39 pm

I just fired Charon (I felt so bad watching him walk away) because I wanted to see what Star was like and he said since I still had his contract I just had to go and pick him up again so my question is if I wanted to try 2 other followers besides Dogmeat what do I do? Do I send him to the Vault and will he be waiting for me if I go back for him?

You can only have two two-legged followers at a time by using glitches. The game limits you to one follower at a time but Dogmeat holds a special slot so he doesn't count toward the limit. If you fire Dogmeat to Vault 101, he'll be waiting on you whenever you want him to accompany you again.
It's always a good idea to get in the habit of taking companions back to their default firing places before firing them. They can die along the way or they can glitch disappear too. I only ever fire people I hate away from their default firing locations.

Yeah, if you target Dogmeat in Vats you'll be able to see his health. If you have Broken Steel installed and are above level 7 or 8, you shouldn't have many worries over his health and by the time you get to level 15, he'll be practically indestructible.

I think that, if you never met up with Dogmeat, you could have Cross and Charon together. I know because I had her and RL-3 for awhile. Just when you recruit Cross, say "I bet I couldn't stop you" or some such thing. She'll join you even if you have a follower already.

In any case, Cross is a good follower, as long as you give her a good gun. Her default one is inadequate, and since her melee skill isn't tagged, you don't want her using a super sledge.

If you want Charon back, he should be in Underworld.

I've found that Fawkes with his gatling laser and Cross with a Burnmaster is a lovely combination. Death at a distance, and point-blank mayhem. With those two by my side, even deathclaws go down like wheat in a combine.

I'm very careful about firing followers nowadays. Always do it close to their default location. I once fired Dogmeat (to keep him safe) while at a low level in Grayditch. It was a bad idea - he ran right around a corner into the path of a warrior fire ant. I was not quick enough to help him :( I'm always careful about looking after my pooch now.

I don't want to fire Fawkes, because he is deadly. And for now, am just telling him to stay in my Megaton house... I work better alone... but some times it's better to have a companion.
I wont wonder if he will be shot on sight, at the Citadel... Because he is a super-mutant ,aka meta-mutant.

Oddly, your followers are safe from your friends, as long as they are with you. You can take Fawkes anywhere. You can likewise gallivant about Tenpenny Tower with Charon in tow.

I just fired Charon

I usually park fired followers in my Megaton house... seems to be working okay so far. I want them to be as comfortable as possible... letting them just stand around in front of vault 101 seems kinda mean. A guy should be able to have a beer, a slice of pizza and a place to sit dontcha think?

House can get a little crowded however.
