Ridiculous Problems

Post » Mon Aug 16, 2010 1:24 am

Hello, peoples.

I am involved with the Mega-mod Tamriel Rebuilt for Morrowind. Its aims are to build the mainland of Morrowind.

Most of you probably already knew that.

Anyway, I have Morrowind running on my laptop and my dad's tower, as mine has no internet access. When I download mods for them, I manually activate the .bsa files (just in case) but they still have a hell of a time working. Many models are missing, replaced with that annoying warning marker. In many cases, entire interiors are great masses of markers, as are entire exteriors, creating a giand yellow building. Perfect for comic relief, but for the other purposes, it is a pain. Additionally, whenever I enter a new area of the maps (Telvanni or Antedeluvian Secrets) It shows the string of multiple problems it had loading. And, just to top off all my struggles, whenever I load them in the construction set, I encounter the ridiculous line of error messages about the models, the meshes, the dialogue, and so on.

So, here I stand (figuratively) before you, the wisdom of the forums, to help me with my problems. If the problem is simple, forgive me and my stunted intellect. If it isn't, I'll have to take it to the actual website and discuss it with the Admins. Again. So, please give me any help. It would be helpful. So very helpful. If not, thank you for your consideration.

Oh, last thought, if you have time, and if you haven't already, please visit the TR website at www.tamriel-rebuilt.org. It is worth it.

Shouldn't this be in the mods sections? Those guys know what they're doing with all that.

I'd first make sure that your Morrowind.ini is still configured correctly for bsa archives - look for the following line under [General] section:
;-1 Use raw data, 0 Use Newer, 1 use Archive Only
TryArchiveFirst=0

If it's already set to zero, you could try changing that to 1 to force Morrowind and the CS to only use the bsa archives.

Of course, you want to make sure the bsa's are registered in the Morrowiwnd.ini as well - under [Archives] section you'll want to have these lines:
Archive 0=Tribunal.bsa
Archive 1=Bloodmoon.bsa
Archive 2=TR_Data.bsa

That's assuming you have both bethesda expansions installed and no other 3rd party mods that add bsa archives. Without those it should just be Archive 0=TR_Data.bsa.

Pretend the Admins at TR already told me to do that, and it doesn't help? One of them said that running on Vista was the problem. Is that the problem?

Try installing Morrowind outside of the 'Program Files' directory so as to avoid UAC, rights restrictions, and virtualization.

I'd suggest putting it right off your boot drive, i.e. C:\Morrowind - or C:\Games\Morrowind if you like.

Okay, that didn't work, so now I am completely lost. Is there a problem with the data, possibly? it works on neither Vista or 7, and the XP computer we have has no Internet access. Any other suggestions?

It works fine for me on Vista, so I haven'y the faintest clue what the problem is here, but it definately isn't Vista. Have you diasbled UAC? Additionally, my MW installation is in the C drive, and I run TR with no issues.
Great sig, by the way.

This is definitely a .bsa issue. Use bsareg. If you did, make sure you extracted it to the right folder. Try re-extracting the entire mod.

Okay, so the next step is to re-extract the files completely outside the program files, and reuse bsareg. I'll keep you posted.

Thank you, Blade117. You should read the books. They're funny.

Okay. Well, I tried re-extracting, moving, bsareg-ing, and nothing seems to work.
Now I have no idea what to do. Does anyone live in or near LA that could help me?

How about this?
Copy/Paste the [Archives] section of your Ini here for us to see.

Perhaps there's a small error you're missing that we can spot.
Because what you're describing is precisely what happens when the BSA is wrong.

Worth a shot.

[Archives]
Archive 0=Tribunal.bsa
Archive 1=Bloodmoon.bsa
Archive 2=TR_Data.bsa

Here's the archives. And still, TR refuses to work.

What are the date and timestamps you show for all of those bsa archives?

Are you able to view the contents of the TR_Data.bsa using a tool like BSA Browser?

I am not sure how to view the date/timestamp, but no, I can't view any .bsa contents. Where can I find the BSA Browser? Just online?
