Umm, well Umbra is a soul-trap sword, so just go and kill enemies as usual to collect souls. As long as you have Azura's Star in your inventory, a soul will be captured in it (only one at a time) and the best thing is that AS is unlimited. Once you use it, it doesn't go away. You can use it to recharge Umbra, and also enchant or recharge other Enchanted items if I remember right.

Oh yeah and welcome to the forums :)

So I shouldn't use it? Oh and one more question. How do I get Hatred's Soul if I beat the game?

No. You SHOULD use it. It's a re-usable soul gem. It never goes away. Best item in the game I think. Hatred's Soul is in the Chorrol Oblivion Gate. So, if you have finished the main quest, it''s not available anymore.

UNLESS! Unless you are on the PC and are not adverse to cheating, then type into the console player.additem 00014D6A.

I agree with the others, always keep the Azura's Star on your person, it really is the most useful item in the game.

The Azura's Star is extremely useful to anyone who uses an enchanted weapon, as it lets you keep topping up the charge in the weapon. Just click on the AS in the inventory and select which item to add the charge to. Ordinary Soul Gems are used up doing this, but the AS is not, it's just emptied for a refill later. Get into the habit of dumping the content into your weapon as you collect souls, and you'll never run out of charge.

If you don't use any weapons at all - i.e. you're playing a pure Mage character - then it may not be useful at all. Enchantments for clothing are better from Sigil Stones than anything you can get from a soul in Azura's Star, so you'd probably never use it.

I wish I'd read this before. I didn't know about the "recharge" ability of AS, and I gave it up to Martin. Next time I'll know better.

I normally hotkey Azuras star which will simply let you access it without having to scroll through a menu

The Umbra sword can capture souls as as as you use it against an enemiy due to its long soultrap duration

Azuras star however cant capture NPC souls so you will have to use black soul gems for that

Umbra + Azura's Star = Goldbrand

SAy, your in an oblivion gate. You see a daedroth. Slash it once with umbra, and hotkey to goldbrand. Kill it, and you have a soul to recharge goldbrand. Perfect. And since my guy is a goody-two-shoes, he doesnt fight people that much.

Yeah Azura's Start is one of the best Daedric items you can get. The fact that it is re-usable is a big advantage and a good reason to keep it in your inventory.

Used in combination with Umbra will mean that you will have a filled soul gem that you can use whenever you need it (can't trap NPC souls with it, need a black soul gem for that BTW). I would always use mine as a reserve in case I ran out of regular soul gems.

Good Hunting......
