Trying to begin Mace of Molag Bal quest.

I cant find a mountain lion, nor a pelt of which.



Any advice?

Do you plan on joining the Fighter's Guild? The first quest for them from Anvil will net you a few pelts.

I already have done that quest. :/



Also, I am level 17. Way past mountain lion level.

I've never tried, but it may be worth checking her basemant to see if the carcass is still there.

Also, the wiki says the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Unmarked_Cave is a good place to look.

I backtracked to the basemant, to no avail.

Along with that, I travelled to the place where we slayed 4 of them. Although the bodies had inevitably dissapeared. It seems I had dropped a pelt, I grabbed it.

That doesn't mean they'll never appear. The game will select any creature from the leveled list regardless of level. It's just more likely to select a higher level one. I've also seen the odd pelt appear in the merchant inventories, mainly the general item merchants like Thoronir etc.

This. I've often found lion pelts and Thoronir's as well as that Nord in Skingrad across from the Mages' Guild.

Additionally, you can sometimes find Mountain Lions by travelling W/NW of Weatherleah. I usually run into them even when my character is over level 20 from time to time.

Even though it's past the time it was pertinent, I thought of this thread recently, when one of my characters (level 18) found lion pelts in three different outdoor chests. You know - the chests that are tucked away next to rocks or outside of forts or such.

For whatever that's worth....
