Can't kill a god, mmmm I remember Vivec from Morrowind, he died :D granted it took a long time to kill him though.

The Tribunal and Dagoth Ur were not the same as other gods, so I don't see why people bring them up as relevant to whether or not you can kill a god. They were all mortals who took power from the Heart of Lorkhan. At the time of TES3, it had been over 400 years since they were last able to renew their power, so it had waned a bit. You couldn't kill any of them until you completed the main quest and disenchanted the Heart, thus severing their godhood and making them mortal again. Just because you can fight and defeat Vivec's body before doing so, that doesn't mean you killed him. Gods exist outside of their physical bodies and outside of time. Only after the Heart of Lorkhan is disenchanted can you say any of them were actually dead.

It seems to me that "god" is just sort of a slang term.

Technically Sheogorath is a "Daedric Prince"

And he is indestructible. As mentioned during the in-game Shivering Isles Main Quest story line. The other Daedric Princes were unable to destroy "sheogorath" and so had to settle for transforming him.

And in his own realm you can't really hope to even hurt him. Therefore level 254. I think they would have made it even higher except for some programing limitations.

Isn't the irony that he kills a god to become one anyway?

He killed him out of vengeance, and then went on to kill the rest of the olympians, and it is somewhat symbolic to kill one and then have to take its place proving that even though you killed a god, one must always be present

lmfao so high

why would they make him that high in level?

In addition to all of the previous comments about him being a god/Daedric Prince, 255 is as high as you can count in binary with one byte. I suspect they set it at 254 to allow for the possibility of him managing to gain a level somehow. I'm not sure what would happen if he managed to gain two levels. Would it just loop over to zero or cause an error? Interesting question.

Because Lvl 255 would be so over the top. Lvl 254 is just about right.

Hahahahaha, nice

Actually the character level is a two byte variable. It goes to 65535.

It would have been nice if, upon taking the mantle of Sheogorath, your charcter leveled to at least 95 or 100. . . unless of course it meant that every Grummite in The Isles and every Goblin in Nirn would also become deified, in which case, never mind.

As to all this "but Vivec" "But Almexia" business, they were not gods. Period. They were mortalsof great power, who had found away to tap a divine power source and enhance themselves to godlike proportions of longevity and potency. . . but these powers were not native to them. They derived from elsewhere, from the living though disembodied organ of a true immortal, and once they were severed form the source they were returned to their natural state. The Aedra and Daedra were born divine and are innately so, and THe Daedra all the more for having not sacrificeD any of their native strength to Nirn.
