Pre-Order Packs: Caravan or Classic Pack?

Post » Sat Aug 21, 2010 7:38 am

I cant decide if i want to pre-order from gamestop and get

Armored Vault 13 Suit
Weathered 10mm Pistol
5 Stimpacks
Vault 13 Canteen

Or pre-order from walmart and get

Lightweight Leather Armor
Sturdy Caravan Shotgun
4 Repair kits
Binoculars

I feel that both are really convincing but i cant decide. The canteen may be good for the dehydration in hardcoe but the binoculars may be good for a scope if you are scanning a large area. Share your opinion please.

get classic the combat shotgun is always the best shotgun and the binolculares can be compansated by any gun scope. the canteen will help if you go on hardcoe mode and for long treks into the wastes.

Just pre-order from Amazon. You get the game for $56.99 with free shipping. Plus you get Throwing spears, a better machete, some kind of poison for melee weapons, and a renamed Raider Blastmaster Armor.

I say go for what ever looks best to you.

Personally I'll be getting the caravan pack since I like the look of the leather armor, and the extra durable shot gun will definitely come in handy for the first couple early encounters till you can find something even nicer out in the wastes.

ALL the packs will be outclassed (stat wise) by the first major arc of the story, as you find better and better equipment. So go with what looks esthetically best to you.

Also for everyone out there claiming that the "Vault 13" stamped canteen in the classic will be your savior in the wastes, you will most likely be able to barter for a regular canteen in the town where you start.

And the classic pack is a throwback to the first Fallout games which I never played, so RP-ing as the Vault dweller (who is not even in the game and doesn't make sense story wise since the PC never came from a vault 13) means nothing to me and many people who also recently started playing Fallout with F3.

Am I wrong about this? Is the preorder pack not merely a code you enter somewhere which gives you a set of special starting gear? Aren't these codes going to be available within days (if not hours) of release all over the web?

They're probably unique codes.

Maybe. The Dr. Pepper promotional armor for Mass Effect wasn't (and still isn't, AFAIK) a unique code.

Unique to each disk? I think I've only got one bonus like this for a game and it was a map that anybody could get if they had the code and the code was simply the name of the map.

EDIT: Yeah, that Dr Pepper armor was an easy find.

I was thinking more like a randomly generated alpha-numeric, printed on an extra piece of paper, or emailed to you in the case of steam. That's how it was handled with Just Cause 2, which had retailer specific digital pre-order bonuses.

I'd say Caravan:

-The shotgun supplements your 9mm, whereas the Classic pack just gives you another pistol

-The binoculars will be handy if you don't intend on using scoped weapons

-You can get an armored Vault 21 suit in the regular game, making the Vault 13 suit pointless (except for RPs that don't make sense)

-Repair kits never hurt, do they?

-In all likelyhood, nostalgic value will be the only thing making the Vault 13 canteen different from others

I'm going for the Caravan, in the long run you will have things that WILL be better so in the beginning it will be best to get the one that suits your playing style, I'm usually a melee "ninja" spec with a penchant for firearms so caravan has a good medium for my, plus aesthetically speaking I prefer the look of the light leather, plus I know you can get a black balaclava, so again it will suit my style.

Nostalgia sure, but you'll wind up ditching the canteen later on anyway. Plus RPing the "Vault Dweller" isn't really my idea of role playing but hey that's just me.

I agree with this. They aren't going to give you the best equipment at the start of the game so it's better to go for what you prefer the look of, or what suits the character you wish to make as opposed to what is "the best".

Personally I'd like the Vault pack, but so far only Steam has revealed which pack we get in the UK and it's the Caravan one (My second choice thankfully). So I shall have to wait to see who does the Vault pack.

Its not as if any of these packs give you anything your gona hold onto for long. Just pick whatever makes you perky and dont sweat the details. Fun is bettrer then function.

Think of it this way, does a shotgun do more damage than a pistol? Yes, problem solved. As for the canteen you can get canteens in-game, just not one that has a 13 on it.
