On the Front, Behind Enemy Lines

A cold sweat dripped from Simon's forehead as he grabbed his freshly cleaned officer uniform from his metallic locker next to his bed. He could hear the thumps of power-armored soldiers marching throughout the halls. He was nervous. Today was his first day out there. Out in the unforgiving wasteland as a Lt. He had been out there plenty as a soldier. But thats were he had experience, in shooting a plasma rifle at mutants. Not barking out orders at lower ranking soldiers, while they were safe and secure in there power armor. And where was he? Sitting in a paper-thin Officer Uniform with a Plasma Pistol at his side.

But he knew that there was no room for cowards in the Enclave. He ran his hand through his newly shaved hair, feeling each hair as it tapped his fingertips. He locked the door, and suited up, taking about 5 minutes in the process. After he was done, he grabbed his small Plasma pistol, feeling its cold metallic grip in his hand as he flipped the on switch to charge the plasma. Simon strapped it at his side, and took out his flimsy plastic key-card, and jammed it into the doors opener. He listened to the metal gears sliding as the two sides slid left and right. He stepped out into the quiet hallway, looking at the doors lining up the sides. The rooms behind them were all empty, he knew that much. He also knew that the people that lived behind them may never come back.

What a depressing thought before your first official commanding mission. Simon thought as he approached the group of men dressed in Hellfire armor, holding their energy weapons and large guns. He couldnt see their faces, and it made him feel wierd, not being in a mask himself.

"Good morning, sir!" One of them said, his voice being masked by his metallic helmet. Simon just politley inclined his head toward him, not wishing to speak to him.

"Alright," Simon said to the group, with a voice of command, "Today were going to go on a scouting mission out to the north. Reports say that there are hostiles. Get all your possessions you wish to bring and meet me outside. Were not taking vertibird, so pack light." He nodded at the men, and began walking toward the front gate. Almost all of the men in the squad followed him, except for one or two. In moments they were all lined up outside the front of Raven Rock, in the dark and dusty wastes, full of death and destruction, taking a quick supply check before they left.

"Alright men, lets move!"

-----------

"Do you think he suspects something?"

"No, not yet. Besides, would he really care?"

"Well, he didn't exactly sign up for it!"

"Relax. He isnt going to find out for a while. And when he does, I think it'll be time to tell him."

"Everything?"

"Everything. Lets just hope he dosnt remember anything before then."

Hmm, I like it. Waiting for more, and it was pretty well done, except for some spelling errors.

(You spelled doesn't wrong for example.)

Globs of hot plasma soared through the air and the rings of bullets cried out as Simon's team and a group of raiders were in a deadly skirmish during the dark hours of the night. The Enclave soldiers appeared to be winning, with the raider casulites much larger than them. But they didnt know what else was going on. Simon was directing his troops from behind a large rock-

"Rosch, left flank! Mike, get the fat-man primed! John and Scott, get some cover and start distributin Med-X to the wounded!" He yelled as the sounds of battle got louder. But in black abyss of the night, neither he nor his troops saw the reinforcements of the raiders surrounding them. In moments, they would be trapped, and Simon would have no idea about it happening. He continued directing his men, killing the dangerous opponents as they fired bullet after bullet at them. Until he heard a loud voice shout from behind him.

"Surround them! Seal all exits!" A old mans voice rang out.

What the hell? Simon thought Raiders arnt this organized! He continued ordering his troops to fire at the surrounding raiders, but he knew it was futile. In moments they would be completely doomed. Simon felt so helpless, sitting there as bullets hit his troops. But then, an idea slowly formed in his mind.

"Mike! Get the Fat-Man over here!" Simon shouted as he grabbed a bloody and used plasma rifle from the ground as one of his troops sprinted across the short distance between them. Once he arrived, he just handed the Fat-Man to Simon, and got his plasma rifle from his back and began shooting. Simon quickly grabbed the mini nuke out of the fat-man.

I hope this works, or else were screwed He thought as he looked at his sqaud, all dead except for 3 or 4 men out of the 20 he started with. At that point, he dropped the fat-man started running towards where he heard the shouting, using the rocks littering the area for cover. After running about 2 yards, he saw the owner of the commanding voice standing in the entrance to a large chasm, seperating the battlefield from their objective. The man didn't look like a raider at all. He had what looked like Power Armor, and was actually clean, compared to the other raiders, that were caked in filth and dirt. Simon quickly charged, all of the raiders shooting at his men instead of him. But the commander saw him, and pulled out a plasma pistol, much like Simon's. He fired, hitting Simon in the chest. Simon fell over, injured, with a searing pain in his chest that brought tears to his eyes. He saw the commander put the pistol away and return to staring at the battle. But he thought Simon was dead.

But Simon knew he wasnt.

He crawled, slowly, towards the commander, too focused on the battle to see him, and yelling too loud to hear him. But Simon didnt need to be seen or heard. Once he was in throwing distance of the cliff, he threw the mini nuke. It hit one of the raiders in the head, knocking him over.

"What the hell?!" He heard the soldier shout, and the commander looked back to see what was happening. But as soon as he saw the mini nuke, he shouted to his men, telling them to retreat. But Simon was ready. He took the plasma rifle from his back, and fired at the mini nuke.

The plasma hitting hit was enough to activate it. It exploded, sending the commander flying everywear, and the chasm to collapse. But it was a bit too effective. Rocks flew out from the chasm, large ones. They were crashing down into the landscape. And unfortunatly Simon was on that landscape. He saw the rock coming, he saw it coming down, and he felt it hit his head, knocking him unconsicous.

===================

"He has the mind to be a great General, Marcus."

"Too bad he wasn't sent to Raven Rock to become a general."

"Do you think he'll be ok? A rock that large hitting someone on the head could easily kill them."

"Good thing he's not easy to kill, then. He'll be fine, but it'll take a few weeks for him to recover."

"We don't have a few weeks. We have two before Eden does what I think he's doing."

"Then its a good thing the Enclave has good doctors."

Interesting story, I like the enclave perspective (since I sorta like Enclave) and the end conversations are interesting and make me want to read the next installment. Nice fan-fic!

If you want me to be super hyper critical, you forgot to use ' and an example is you typed wasnt instead of wasn't. The third paragraph I thought should have been broken up to make it easier on the reader but thats just me.

Nice fan-fic!

It took 3 days for him to wake up.

The rock did less damage then the doctors thought it would. Simon's nose had broken, and the rock managed to fracture his shoulder, but otherwise all he had was a concussion. The doctors had no idea what was going on in his head, though. He was having what some would call memories. Except they never happend. He remembered shooting mercenaries, bartenders, even a few Enclave Soldiers. But he knew that he never did that. He remembered plans for places like Megaton, and Rivet City. He had never been to either of those. But most of all he remembered a man named Christopher Loch.

He looked about in his mid-40s, with long gray hair and a pale complexion. His face had a scar on it. A big one. But thats not what mattered. What mattered is that he was talking to him. About... Eden, and the Enclave. But Simon didn't remember this. He didn't remember any of the stuff he had over to time of his coma.

Simon woke up to a hospital room in Raven Rock. Everything was so.... sterile. He looked around the white room, hoping to see some sort of doctor to tell him where he was. But the only thing in there was a cold steel locker. Simon attempted to get out of his bed, but the second he pushed his right arm down on the bed, a searing pain shot through him. He yelled in pain, and in moments a doctor was through the door. He explained to Simon where he was and what happened, all while Simon sat patiently listenting. After the doctor finished explaining, he wrapped a cast over Simon's arm, and told him that his clothing was in the locker.

Simon went to sleep again after the doctor left, and woke up an hour later with some kind of mush and a cup of medicinal fluid. He ate greedily. Even though the stuff tasted like a shoe that had been dipped in Deathclaw crap and the medicine tasted like the Deathclaw crap the shoe had been dipped in, it was the first meal he had in three days. After that, he got up, opened the locker, and was utterly suprised to find his Enclave Officer Uniform in there, with his pistol and a holotape.

Dont soldiers usually get a break when they're in comas? Simon thought as he began dressing in his now familiar uniform, finding that it had almost no damage from the rock. He grabbed the pistol, and on impulse went to check the Energy Cell at the top. Suprised to find it not there, he strapped the weapon to his side and grasped the holotape. He took a quick look on it, and saw a tag signing it Mission Briefing. He sighed, and hit the on button.

Lt. Simon Silvan An accented voice rang out through the speakers on the holo-tape I congratulate you on your recover. I understand that you are not fully well yet, but you are still needed out in our Country's Beautiful Capital. You have proven yourself to be one of the greatest commanders in Raven Rock for now, and are obviously a needed asset on our next mission. Report to Colonel Autumn for your orders now. This is President Eden signing off.

Simon stared at the holotape as the voice stopped. He had just received a direct order from Eden himself. He knew he shouldn't wait, so he quickly opened the door and set off to find Autumn.

============
"This is good. Very good."

"Indeed. Now Eden has intrest in him."

"Now the only problem is the Colonel. He's in the way of us getting to Eden."

"Dont worry, the next mission won't last long with him in the lead."

"Are you saying....?"

"I've already mobilized the troops. Give me 10 hours, tops."

"This better work."

"When do my ideas not work?"

Simon quickly rushed through the cold, metal halls, trying to reach Colonel Autumn, who was currently in the Mess Hall. As Simon fast-walked through the hall-ways, he passed dozens of troops heading out the the vertibird landing pads, all geared up in the cold suits of Tesla and Enclave Power Armor. Something big was definetly going on. And Simon was a part of it. He continued his journey to the mess hall, and when he arrived at the door, two Hellfire Armored were there.

"Stop right there, Lt." One said, holding up a an armored hand, "Do you have clearance to be here?" Simon handed him the tape, and after waiting about two minutes for the Soldier to listen, he was let in. As Simon entered the hall, he saw that he wasnt the only one there. Inside was a group of Captains, all dressed up in there uniforms waiting for the Colonel to come out and tell them the orders. In moments, Simon's eyes were drawn to a figure standing on a table in the center of the room, dressed in a nice coat the same color as the officer's uniforms, only it had a black shirt under it. His head was shaved, and he was glaring at Simon with an expression that said 'Sit your ass down, soldier.'

Simon sat next to an old Captain, who was covered in wrinkles, and as soon as he was down, the man in the center of the room began talking.

"Welcome. As you all know, you have been chosen for a special mission regarding the Enclave's connection to the wasteland." The man said, in a heavily accented voice, "I am your commander, Colonel Autumn. You have all shown great improvistation and tactics in battle. But this battle wont be like those. This one will be much more dangerous. You are going to be up against trained soldiers, with technology much greater than the petty raider gangs and mercenaries. The opponents we fight today have shown that they can take on the Enclave and win too. That is why you have been chosen."

"Today we set out to battle with the Brotherhood of Steel." Autumn continued, "They are currently guarding a science project known as 'Project Purity'. This Project is crucial to our efforts of returning America to it's former glory. We do not know the numbers of the soldiers guarding the Project, but we estimate it is high, since Project Purity could change the wasteland and I'm sure the Brotherhood would want to be in on it. Alright, get to your assigned vertibirds, and prepare to move out. You will recieve the mission breifing on the way." As he finished, he stepped off the table and walked off to his private vertibird. Simon started to think.

What if this Brotherhood is too strong for us? We could easily be wiped out. He thought as he got up and proceeded to his vertibird. He was scared. It was like his first mission all over again. But, as he walked to his vertibird, he was cut off by the Colonel.

"Sir, shouldn't you be in your vertibird?" Simon asked, confused

"Listen, soldier, I've heard about you." The Colonel said, with a hint of anger in his voice, "You nearly killed yourself and your platoon by throwing that explosive. It was a dangerous move. And I dont tolerate dangerous moves in my army. If you try anything like that again, anything that could jepordize the mission, I'll have you shot so fast that you won't realize your dead until your in Hell, got that?"

"Y-Yes sir!" Simon said, stuttering out of fear. At that point, the Colonel walked off toward his vertibird, leaving Simon there, staring at him.

===========

"Holy Crap, they Actually think the Brotherhood is guarding that stupid science project?"

"Sometimes I wonder who actually does the thinking for the Enclave."

"Maybe its a Brahmin. Anyways, are the troops in position?"

"Ready as they'll ever be."

"Great. Did you tell them not to kill Simon?"

"Yes, but I dont know if they'll listen. These guys are blood-thursty."

"Well, if any of them have Mr. Silvan's blood on their hands, make sure they-"

"Get shot?"

"No. Make it worse than death."
