Autistic Mindset?

Post » Tue Aug 24, 2010 1:00 pm

For some reason while moving about in school today, I got the idea to play through as an autistic Dunmer teenage male who was raised through a wealthy family but somehow gets tragically separated from his parents in Morrowind and wakes up to find himself in Cyrodiil. To prevent myself from having an emotional disaster (as my sister has autism) he'll be a highly functioning person who can speak and write well but has a hard time in combat. I plan on screwing the timeline and making this a two part TES IV-III mix.

However, for Oblivion, I need a decent set of limitations of his ability and an alternate start mod (as I'll probably cry if he wakes up in jail).
His class I'm make "Pal" and the major skills will be:
-Athletics (Quick escape from combat)
-Speechcraft (He's a good talker)
-Light Armor (As he likes how fluffy Fur Armor is)
-Acrobatics (See the first one)
-HtH (For when he doesn't get what he wants)
-Security (From what I've heard autistic kids specialize in things, as my sister does in art)
-Mercantile (See Speechcraft)

As you can see, he's not fitted for combat for a reason

So what I also need for Morrowind is a similar class set-up that are based around those things above.
How he gets to Morrowind possible "hopping" the border and getting arrested and sent on the very boat in TES III

What do you think?

Interesting idea for a character. I have a mild form of autism and I wouldn't say that I'm a good talker haha. Id put Intelligence pretty high for sure and have low personality. Don't see anything wrong with it but from personal experience, I'd rarely use a weapon and use primarily magic to fight people, including destruction and conjuration so I don't have to do much combat myself and let other people do it.

Definately an unusual roleplay idea. I always assume that everybody whose into fantasy and SF books and roleplaying is probably somewhere on the aspergers spectrum (I'm exagerating only slightly).

I notice you don't list any magic skills as major. Maybe you don't want to play a magic oriented character, but it seems a dark elf with mild autism could seriously get into one area of magic and be the ultimate master in that one area, knowing everything about it. This could also offset the poor coordination/combat performance and the need to avoid jail time from thieving or assassination.

Ya thats what I got. Well aspergers that is. Not the being extremely into fantasy/sf/roleplaying part.
If I were to put myself in Tamriel, I don't think I'd be a dark elf, but this is just my opinion since I have aspergers.

I put a lack of combat majors because as I said, he wasn't combat oriented. The hopes I have for him was being a city-wandering type w/ his Redguard friend, who has a friend called "Swordy". I also like the Int-High Per-Low idea. Should I also use "Blunt" for his err... tantrums?
Now I would srsly give a great big hug to anyone who can find a remotely cheery alternate start mod.

Theres TuStartingoptions, you get the choice of starting in many places(45 or so), he can start with ownership of a house in a city, or in an Inn, chapel, out in the wild, in a cave, and the ever so fun random option.

i cannot honestly imagine myself playing like this, though i intentionally put limitations to my characters (low STR & END, avoi hack and slash, etc...), but in TES getting arrested and dying in combat is something pretty normal and helps u sharpen ur characters gameplay.

so, if not only u wanna start outside jail, but avoid getting caught, thre is a mod called No Psychic Guards, with which if u 'do sth wrong' the guards or witnesses have to be nearby, and not like 2 kms away and spot u thru walls, as unmodded...

Dunno. I personally would have say a dagger instead of a blunt object if I ever had to fight someone in front of my face. Daggers and stabbing seem so much more effective than hitting an intruder with a frying pan. No armor for sure. If you have OOO, you can get yourself a ton of minions with the alteration skill maxed and with restoration after doing a large quest that involves same heavy duty dungeon diving. Might want to put Illusion as well since its the best way to render your opponent useless which would be my first strategy and it helps you remain unseen and negates some other skills.

This is certainly an interesting idea. It reminds me of a nord named Thrud from Morrowind's Tribunal expansion. He looks big and tough but he's really a nice guy who's only ambition in life is to hang out with his wizard friend, Dilborn who takes care of him. I've always found that kind of character endearing.

I don't know of any way to simulate a border hopping (other than what's already been posted) but Morrowind builds are a speciality of mine. A good Morrowind build could be (based on your original post):

Majors:
- Speechcraft
- Mercantile
- Security
- Alteration (gives him the ability use the lock spell to lock doors and containers so he can practice security over and over again.)
- Unarmored (Non-combat orriented people don't generaly wear armor.)

Minors:
- H2h
- Light armor
- Athletics
- Acrobatics
- Blunt (As you so put, "for his err... tantrums?")

I wouldn't likely use this in build with one of my own characters but I'm generaly a very statisticaly orriented person. I mostly RP my characters personality leaving as little of an impact on their stats as possible. This seems to be a different case. There's my two cents.

Double post? You can't. Just edit it to say something like "double post, sorry".

I was just about to say the same thing!

Anyway, I really like your idea. It's endearing and sounds like a really fun and different roleplay idea, and it'll probably be loads of fun to play. Like gwynwas said, I think some kind of super-skills in a certain area of magic might be interesting. It doesn't have to be Combat magic, and it would help your character not be completely helpless in a sense, and they wouldn't have to spend any time in jail (as they would as a Master lockpicker etc). Restoration, Illusion?

From personal experience, I have a lot of weird like ritual type stuff I do all the time, so in the game I'd say eat the same meal every Loredas or something or always sleep for a certain time. You shouldn't just decide though, stuff like that takes a while to develop and your character should make it not you.

Now, are there any follower mods for Morrowind? Preferably a Redguard?

Well the thread maker said he wants the character to be in both games, I'm just saying that if you want MW mod advice I'd ask there haha.
