Thinking about making this type of character, will it work?

Post » Tue Aug 24, 2010 7:04 pm

It's going to be a Redguard. I'm giving him blade, marksman and block skills, along with some magic and stealth skills. Basically an all-around character. But one thing I plan to do is have him completely armor-less. That's right, no armor skills. Do you guys think this will work out? My game is also going to be much harder due to the realism mods I have. A goblin can kill me in a couple of hits in the tutorial.

Sounds fun, I don't know much about skills yet as I've had the game for two weeks, and It's my first RPG. Anywho... I've been told by many that sneak is bad and it levels too fast? I honestly have no idea what i'm saying SOUNDS OSSIM!

You WILL die a lot. I am sure.

It is challenging unmodded... I personally did not like any of the armours in O (except the Dark Brotherhood but u cannot enchant them), so I installed a great mod Galerion, which links ur Acrobatics skill to Unarmored shield bonus.

I think I'm acutally going to have light armor, I feel the same about not liking any of the armors (Except I like a couple of the weak ones, but those are useless later on) BUT I just realized I have knights of the nine DLC so I'm going for that armor. It looks pretty cool IMO

A build like that works fine. You don't need armor in this game, as any mage can tell you. You'll probably want to enchant some shielding onto your clothes, though.

Having said that... If this mod makes your game tough enough that the goblins in the tutorial are a problem, wait until you meet some of the goblins outside the tutorial... :whistling:

For funsies you can play realistically. By that I mean if you die, you delete your character and start over. Like I said, Funsies!

Blade and marksman?
It's usually best to go with one or the other. Switching between combat is hard.
Magic is a good combination with anything however, as you can cast it no matter what your wielding.

That's not fun, that's painful :flamed:

I could never, never, never do that. If I only have on chance in life, I want to have more than one in a video game!

I'm sure you will do fine. Wearing no armour, you can use your mobility to outmanouver your enemies, while having shield to block some random hits. Acrobtics could help too.

It worked for my barbarian, and he even used only 2h weapons.

Problem with marksman is that it require a lot of use to become a good skill, so you either use bow as primary weapon or simply a way to poison somebody from a distance.
if you are an archer you would want a fallback weapon mostly if the enemy get to close.
Archers also has less use for armor as they do ranged combat.
And magic is always useful.

I always have Blade and Marksman as major skills for my main characters because of my playing style. I shoot stuff from behind corners so it doesn't see me and if it comes too close to be shot at I stick a knife in it. I think it works as a combination, especially if you use both pretty much equally (like I do).

Drop Marksman, and use Sneak as a minor. Level Illusion too, but as a minor. It levels fast. If you master Illusion, you can use Chameleon 100% and get around almost any enemy anyway.

Redguards do really well with light armor and blade. One of my most fun/successful characters of all time was a Redguard scout with a similar build to the one you're trying.

This kind of character setup is great. My personal favourite is the redguard with the "all rounder" abilities and skills. my first time playing oblivion was with this character and i completed the game no problems. however, the only thing i found a touch harder is the arena quest , especially against orcs. other than that its a good 'en. Good luck!

I would think that shield enchants could be your friend. Also, will you block with your weapon, or will your character carry a shield?

Is he going to block with a shield or just use 2 handers? I think you get LA/HA experience when blocking but don't quote me on that. The higher those skills are the higher the AR bonus would be on your shield, but don't quote me on that either.
