so i bought new vegas yesterday and like 4 hours in i just turned it off and put oblivion back in lol! anyone else have that, where no matter what games you have at hand, even if they're new, its OBLIVION that you always want to come back to!
Funny this thread is here......
I just came back to Oblivion, and to this forum, after a month of pretty much nothing but Minecraft. That's a tremendous game-- one of the best I've seen in a long time-- but over the past few days, I could feel the urge to play Oblivion coming back. I finally started it up earlier today, and after a period of adjustment (sort of weird to see curves and slopes and detailed textures after a month of nothing but flat surfaces and simple textures), I fell right back into it. Traveling with Lydia, on her way to crash a dinner party in Leyawiin, and it's like being home again.
I had my best Oblivion experience so far last night!
I watched the 2005 black/white silent short film remake of the old H.P. Lovecraft classic, The Call of Cthulhu. It's not particularly horrifying or anything, but if you've ever played the Call of Cthulhu RPG, or read the book, you know there's more than what's on the screen!
Now right after this, I went and played a bit of Oblivion, where I did the Bruma Countess mission about obtaining an Akaviri artifact waaay up in the windblown snowy mountains. You can probably guess where this is going =). You get the old diary describing all the horrors they experienced, and not having played this before I had no idea what to expect. I hadn't been in the mountains yet either. To add to the effect it was nighttime when I hiked the trail to the Serpent cave. I haven't walked so slow and been so paranoid in a looooong time! The wind was howling, the sky was cloudy and then the occasional battle music, I guess when an animal was close, had me jumping in my chair. And I was about to [censored] myself when I encountered the first Ogre as I hadn't seen one of those before! Then came the old misty fort with the friggin ghost you have to fight. Holy crap, my heart rate must have been close 150 throughout. It was awesome!! As soon as I had found the artifact I RAN out of the fort and fast traveled back to Bruma where I RAN until I was in a safe harbor with actual people around me at the inn. Not until then did I settle down and remove my sweaty fingers from the keyboard. Thank you Olav!
And Thanks Oblivion!!
This post made me smile. A lot.
As great as this game is, there's just nothing like the first time.
And Olav's is a pretty swell place.....
