Fortify [Skill] spell - cant make it

Post » Fri Aug 27, 2010 9:03 am

To prevent misunderstandings. This topic is about fortify SKILL not attribute.

It's been my understanding that if you at any time have a fortify skill effect active on you - like for instance from a "Greaves of the Monkey" (by wearing it) - you could use that effect at an altar of spellmaking.
I got both the frostcrag spire altar and access to the university one, but neither will allow the fortify skills effect. Tried with several other foritfy skill apparel i happened to have to. No change.

Could someone explain to me why this didn't work? (i have severalmods running - but that shouldnt make a difference i believe).

I dont want to do the daedric quest for the skeleton key to receive a similar effect (as i dont know it would work and it doenst fit my char)

thx in advance

I think that they might of fixed that in a patch, because for me, I always needed a fortify skill spell.

Doomstones can grant greater powers that fortify skills, and those should work.

Yes, he is right. If you get a doomstone's greater power that has fortify blahblah, you be able to make a custom spell of it.

Heres the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Magical_Stones and here is the page on http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Fortify_Skill

Hope this helps! ;)

Your base skill (not affected by any enchantment or current spell) is what the game looks at. You could have a base skill of acrobatics 49, and wearing the pants, get a boost in your character's current life, but not be able to fortify acrobatics at journeyman level at the spell altar. You must also have the skill to be able to cast that spell. If your magicka is too low, or your skill is too low, you cannot cast the spell. Therefore, you cannot put that enchantment on a piece of gear. Also, I believe that this is a restoration spell. What's your restoration skill? You can change how long the spell effects last, the lower you go on a time or percentage effect, the lower your skill will be needed to successfully cast said enchantment. So, if you lower the percentage of acrobatics skill boost, you could turn a journeyman level spell, into an apprentice level spell. Make sense?

The skeleton key boosts your security, but not to 100. I think it's like 50 points or so. It's an object, not a spell, so you cannot use those effects from the object.

If I'm reading correctly, if you have ANY fortify skill spell that you can cast (as in powers from doomstones) then you can create spells or enchant items with ANY other fortify skill, not just the one you have. So having Fortify Sneak will allow you to enhance with Fortify Strength.

The exact opposite is true of the "Summon x" spells, which are all separate, not a generic "Summon" that gives you access to creating other summons. All you get to change is the duration, not the creature, nor its health.

actually, sneak is a skill and strength an attribute, pay attention or u will waste time on unnecessary trips.

the 2nd line is right.
