Mod to disable combat music?

Post » Sat Aug 28, 2010 5:33 am

I am trying to make Unique Imperial Textures work. To that end, I have downloaded the following mods, copied the meshes and textures folders into my Data Files folder, and enabled the requisite esp's.

I am aware the original mod was flawed in that it required Morrowind to be installed to the default Program Files\Morrowind directory. The mesh fix professes to correct this. However, since copying over the meshes directory from the fix, I find none of the Imperial textures have changed from the default. They are still the same grimy, low res, vanilla version. This is despite the localtex folder being correctly located in Data Files\textures. I would be grateful if someone could advise me what I am doing wrong.

You can easily disable battle music by removing all the mp3 files from the '...\Music\Battle' folder and replace them with one short silent mp3 track (~20 secs long should do the trick).

That won't prevent the explore music from stopping when a combat situation occurs, nor resetting when you get out of range of your attacker. A way to prevent that behavior could probably be scripted, but there will be limitations:
* only tracks the script knew about would play
* adding or changing tracks in the script would require knowing the time length of each mp3 and adjusting the scripts accordingly
* you would lose the simple ability to just add new tracks to the Explore folder and have MW handle playing them

A better solution that avoids those scripting hurdles would be to use FPS Optimizer, it has a feature to prevent the currently playing music track from getting interrupted - you can also set a bind key in order to manually switch to the next random track if desired. :)

Maybe you could try disabling both the combat and explore music directories (by renaming them or whatever), and then just create a playlist for the explore music and play it with a music player running in the background. Personally, I'd just disable both those folders. I've played entire runs through the main quest that way, and it's really quite nice, as you just hear the sfx.

just put the explore music on an ipod playlist, hook it up to some speakers... then turn off the music in the morrowind menu. :celebration:

Thank you for your suggestions! They have been very useful. :)

Alas, I find myself confronted with a new dilemma. Rather than make a new topic, I have decided to edit this one.

There are two files, but as far as I can tell, both are identical. I have tried extracting both to my Data Files directory, to no avail.

It is truly confusing. MGE renders these statics properly from a distance. That tells me that during statics creation, the esp is finding the correct mesh, and the mesh is finding the correct texture. But when the game is played, the proper texture does not show up.

Why don't you just turn the music down all the way and just use iTunes to play the Morrowind music that you want to listen to in the background while the game is running? I always play with the music off and I usually have the Oblivion sound tracks playing or Daggerfall music playing on iTunes.

Thank you for the recommendation, Tes96. I will do that. :)

Could you perhaps also offer some insight into the problem with the Unique Imperial Textures mod?

In regards to the UIT issues, you could honestly correct the problem yourself fairly easily. If memory serves me correctly the meshes need to have the texture paths changed to be relative rather than exact paths as they are. You can do this in NifSkope pretty easily, though it has been sometime since I have even opened that program myself so I can't be any more specific than that

But see, this is what confuses me. I have looked at the meshes in NifSkope after applying the fix, and all of the texture paths appear to be correct. Yet the textures themselves do not show up in game. It's maddening.

I challenge someone to download both the mod and the fix and see for yourself.

Once again, I beg for help in getting this mod to work. I've exhausted all of my know-how to get to this point, and still I am unable to determine what the cause of the problem is. Please, download the mod/fix, look at it, and advise me of a solution. :(

Are the new textures visible when you get close to the object? If so, increasing draw distance in mge helped me, while distant land statics still had the default textures tho, just dont make it too big, or your game will crash oftenly.

They are not visible close to the object. They are visible far away.

Well, I've been able to deduce the cause of the problem. There's still something wrong with the NifTexture path in the fix. Currently, the path is set to textures\localtex\city_impx\texture.dds, which looks like it ought to work... but it doesn't. I can only get the textures to show up if I write the FULL path, in my case c:\games\morrowind\data files\textures\localtex\city_impx\texture.dds. So I can see no solution except to manually rewrite the path for _every_ texture on _every_ mesh for _every_ city, which defeats the entire purpose of the fix.
