Skyrim's situation?

Post » Sun Aug 29, 2010 3:18 am

As we heard from those random conversations NPCs would have with each other (from Summer Isles to Morrowind), now that we know Skyrim is the next game we have to have a grasp on what it's situation will be. I mean, surely, we must remeber the references of Oblivion in morrowind.

So let's get the basics started; We know from the trailer and the conversations that some type of conflict will be in Skyrim. From NPC conversation's it seems that Orc Mercenaries will be aiding some Skyrim soldiers but to what purpose we can only speculate. (I personally think that Skyrim will be in the state of civil war which will be encompased by a Seperatist faction and a Pro-Imperial faction.)

What we can see from the trailer is that this conflict will also involve dragons, and the destruction that will inveitably follow as they return. But what else can we speculate from the trailer and Oblivion?

More from the trailer is that this "DragonBorn" (Not to be confused, I believe, with the Septim blood line), will be our ever so fated hero to save the world...again. Though other then that, we don't know why s/he's called the DragonBorn nor do we have any idea whether this is because s/he was born under a star sign or maybe born under something else. Maybe a blood line, we don't know. (Yet)

Though this might have been planned along time, from prior to the Oblivion crisis. We also know the Elder Scrolls spoke of it, so it is far ancient history preceding the Alyeids. Although, if so, are we to assume it'll be somewhat like Morrowind's plot? If so, I'll be looking forward to it. :)

So any speculations from y'all?

I think it said in the GI issue that he (you) is a dragon hunter, being trained by Esbern, one of the last blades (Dragonguard) and they Greybeards.

Oi...Yeah I checked that out some time ago after posting this. I must say this 'last of line' is not a good path to follow. But, I'm getting very cautious on this backstory. Most TES games you didn't have much of a backstory. Morrowind? You're a prisoner. Oblivion? Prisoner. Arena? You're a figher. Daggerfall? you're a random person from a one of the provineces (Exluding Cyrodill) who is there for some apperant reason.

Actually, in Daggerfall, your character was given a pretty detailed background based on the options you chose during character creation.

I don't think that the "last of line" path is necessarily a bad thing, but I hope they do it in a way that keeps your character background almost completely unknown, as opposed to you being hailed as a saviour from the get-go.

Even if they do end up giving the main character a detailed background (which I doubt they'd do), I'd still be excited about it. It sounds like a really fun role to play from a first-person perspective.

True, but I(at least) hop our Dovahkinn at least has questions like the other TES games (besides Oblivion and Arena). That'd realy be nostalgic for us old time players.

Go here to read all the info in GI and from twitter feeds/forum posts. But basically, the Septim line were Dragonborn just like the main character of Skyrim is a dragonborn, they were all dragon hunters.

Possibly last of line.
