Seeking a voice actor

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 12:00 am

Without giving too much away, I'm in need of a single talented actor to play the role of a self-aware mainframe computer, which is programmed as the boss of a casino. Tthe voice will need to sound somewhat computerized, but aside from that you are welcome to put whatever personality and dialect into the voice that you want - I will write dialogue to your voice. If anybody's interested you're welcome to submit a sample in whatever method you are comfortable with.

Oh, and to clear up any more hilarious misunderstandings, this is not a paid job, and you will not be required to fly anywhere. Thanks everybody.

I'd do it, but I don't know how to computerize my voice...

I'd like to give it a shot. I've got a good mic, but I've never done VA work before.

And here is also one volunteer.

I've never done a role of a self-aware mainframe computer but I guess you are looking something in terms of SHODAN (System Shock series) or GlaDOS (Portal)?

Here is my sample pack if you want to hear something from my previous works: http://www.mediafire.com/file/o8xoda18n5ydta4/MDarkbladeM_SamplePack.zip
It's a bit outdated but should give a good picture on what I can do. Voice quality also differs since I bought a proper mic and setup a few years back so you'll hear some variations on that as well. :)

Darkblade, that's fantastic, thank you for the samples. Great quality recordings, and you have a good voice for what I'm after.

I'll leave this for a few days now while I sort out the dialogue, as well as to allow for anybody else interested to apply, and then barring holdups I'll get back to you via this thread or PM.

Computerizing the voice in post shouldn't be too difficult, if I had a decent mic I'd love to give it a shot, but I don't. Sounds exciting though, I'll be paying attention to this.

Why not? I'll throw my hat into the ring:

NOTE: The Southern drawl is of my own design, after listening to robots like Victor and Primm Slim.
