What's the theory on armor slots as of late?

Post » Sun Sep 05, 2010 6:30 am

We don't know yet, mate. We can only theorize.

Speaking of theorizing this stuff, please place evidence of where you can get info or your reasoning for what you say. I want to see what we can come to.

Belay that comment then! I really hope this speculation is true though, it was an exciting tidbit of information.

All I want is capes, more specifically fur capes (I mean come on, obvious viking reference should be there since they are the nords which I presume are the equivalent of the norse) as well as giant axes, giant hammers, and the ability to dual-wield hatchets.

Ive always considered the "2 rings" rule to be because if you wore more, the magic effects would overlap and make it into a sort of worthless "magic soup" that doesn't do anything.

Or BGS didn't want to have to calculate (8) more enchantments. ;) And I can't blame them.

i want skirts back
i want to feel like a lady, as a man

We're in Skyrim. Judging by same latitude as Morrowind, we'll need loincloth, pants, greaves, skirts, and robes all at once to keep our important areas warm. You would feel like a lady if you left off any of that because you'd be missing pieces in Skyrim.

Somehow this made me think of all the people who play Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode who have their characters decked out in 5 cloaks, 5 hoods, and about as many shirts and pants.

Oblivion +1

Basically all oblivion armor, but you can add one thing over the armor. In the preview we saw that leather harness with the pauldron, but they could also possibly robes, capes, vests etc.

Not sure what the other armour modders on here may think but, from the screenshots, the rigging looks extremely tight to me and that implies single suit like in FO3. Also looks like hair may be rigged as well from one of the shots. I don't think clothing is physic'ed though. Skirt looks rigged to the pelvis/thigh bones. Its possible there are multiple armor slots. May be split upper/lower body and maybe gauntlets, boots, (and obviously helm) but I do not think you have separate pauldrons or clothing under armor. Could be wrong. Just my opinion having done a little modelling but I'm actually fine with single suits if thats the case. I think they look better.

I hope your wrong, more slots the better, more equipment the better. I want all the slots from Morrowind plus earrings, trinket/accessory slot. My biggest letdown with Oblivion other than level scaling(which mods fixed) was the removal of equipment slots which took years for mods to partially fix(robes over armor with clothing under it can now be done). More slots mean more stuff to collect, and collecting stuff is an rpg hallmark. I expect Oblivion slots myself.

As I explained here: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1156928-dumbing-down-armour/page__st__60__gopid__16945696#entry16945696

I think we're getting a system similar to OB rather than FO's full-body suits.

You can see the hair of Mister Conan under his Horned Helmet. Compare this to Morrowind and Oblivion, which replaced the "hair" slots by the helmet, I call it an improvement (it also mean, no ponytail haircut I guess).

Fallout 3 style. Boots, pants, shirt, gloves, hat, hat, hat, hat, hat, hat, hat, hat, hat, hat.

No, that's Team Fortress 2 style.

If you wear alot of rings on your hand you should be prone to having a thief or bandit attack you in a dark alley way.

I think that would be great. It would add some interesting strategy to rings. Is the risk of being robbed worth whatever magic effects I'm gaining from wearing a lot of rings at once? Am I likely to get robbed now? Should I take them off? But what if I need them now? I would love it if they did something like this.

While I would love to have lots of customization options akin to Morrowind, it may be that the 'Multiple' answer from Pete might refer to having multiple variations of one-piece armor suits.

Would be awesome if the 'Multiple' refers to layers so armor could be stacked (within reason); either by the game combining them or the player having a form of 'dressing room' where he/she can combine armors dynamically.

Have to wait and see how things work out at any rate ;)

Hopefully they are back to what Morrowind had.

We know they read the forums, so they know there is massive demand for them, so not having them, or even worse, downgrading again, would seem to go against basic logic. However, they could have a good reason for not adding them back (A.I, Combat, Balance). I think they should make Skyrim's armor system as complex(which wasn't all that complex) as Morrowind's.

I also think Morrowind's Enchanting should return. Enchanting being included as a skill is a good sign.

I think it will be more complicated than Oblivion. But I wonder how enchanting armour will work if you can wear more pieces of armour balance wise.

This could be offset by reducing the strength of the enchantments armor as a whole can be held, for one thing, if you're worried about giving the player more options unbalancing things, then maybe you should rethink game balance so it won't become unbalanced even with more options.

You can see the hair of Mister Conan under his Horned Helmet. Compare this to Morrowind and Oblivion, which replaced the "hair" slots by the helmet, I call it an improvement (it also mean, no ponytail haircut I guess).

I thought it would probably be that when I heard about someone seeming to have the same yellow thing with and without a helmet, as even if you can wear shirts or pants under armor, I doubt you could wear non-armored headgear under helmets, that would be kind of awkward, I think. That's still an improvement regardless, though, because while the whole "helmets replace your hair" thing works for some helmets, fur others, it would just look silly, and other types of unarmored head-gear beyond hoods, like hats and such, which I hope we will see, simply couldn't be done well with helmets replacing hair.

Although in Fallout 3, you could already see your hair even when wearing helmets, so while it's still an improvement, it's one we already saw in a Bethesda game before Skyrim.

But right now, I don't think we have enough screenshots to say how much freedom we'll have with armor slots, because even if screenshots show mix and match armors, it's hard to say if this is actually something done by combining different armor parts, or just the way those armors are set up by default, we'll just have to wait and see. And "Multiple" slots is too vague to tell us much, in short, I'd say we'll have to wait until we get more information before we can say for sure how many armor slots we can expect, though I don't need to wait for information to know what I want, and I can say I'll be dissappointed if the armor slots are simplified further from Oblivion, not to the point where it would stop me from playing the game, but certainly I would not be too happy with the decision.

I hope the armor slots are like Morrowind again.

I think having one pauldron on with your armor looks better imo. Also, if this is true then maybe we can actually wear shirts under our armor or robes over it.

I'm hoping for Oblivion style armour at least. I wouldn't mind if there was one or two 'special' armours that come as a single 'suit' of armour but I want the majority to be armours broken up into different pieces, boots, greaves, helm etc.
