"Smi.." skill misinterpretation

Post » Sun Sep 05, 2010 6:39 pm

Does anyone believe that Smi.. could stand for Smiting instead of Smithing? The assumed Smithing skill comes after all of those magical skills in that screen shot, conjuration, alteration, destruction etc. It would almost make sense to have it as a Smiting skill (holy magic). It also then would mean there's dark magic?

Just something to think about unless Smithing is actually confirmed.

Smiting? :D No that's far-fetched, I'm confident its just smithing.

And they already said you can make your own weapons... so I'm pretty sure it's smithing. Which is awesome! :D

5 schools of magic plus alchemy and enchant as making skills.. no way there is an 8th magic skill. Also per fallout new vegas they likely want every skill group to have 1-2 craft skills like fallout new vegas had survival repair and science based crafting.

Maybe it's 'smiling.' The NPCs in Oblivion could have used that skill. They were horrible at it!

It is Smithing. I would say the probably just added Armorer into it as well.

That could replace both Speechcraft and Mercantile, which were excellent skills for any RPG, but under-implemented in the past game or two (just because the last FPS-leaning game didn't do anything decent with them doesn't mean that they should be removed). Stupid name for it, but not totally impossible. Bottom line is that we're 95% certain that it's Smithing, but not 100%.

Indeed. Armorers don't forge new weapons so they most likely renamed it to Smithing, which can involve both forging and repairing. It's a much clearer name too.

I've played Guild Wars for far too long i suppose haha. Smiting seems perfectly normal to my GW-affected brain.

Pretty sure you can zoom in and see half of a T after SMI.
