Jefferson. It's his memorial after all.

that makes sense...but how come NO-ONE in the game acknowledges the fact that there is a body in the water purifier? let alone the fact that it is NEVER identified?

The Jefferson Memorial before the war was NOT a purifier. It was only after the war that James, your dad in-game, turned it into a purifier.

Also I imagine the statue was so big, and heavy that him, and his group of eggheads weren't able to move it.

Naw, I'm sure that they could've somehow moved it. They probably just thought it was epic-looking.

I just noticed the statue the other day. There's a link to an image of the Jefferson Memorial in this post: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1109366-things-that-made-you-go-what/page__view__findpost__p__16374868

You can see where they would have built the giant tank and the structure around the tank in the open space, but left the statue in the middle since it wouldn't interfere.

Though, I think it would have been cool if Bethesda had attached some equipment to the statue to make it part of the machine itself.

It's a great shot, with the last thing you ever see being Jefferson, the man who helped build the original America. Since your sacrifice helps to start in on building a new one.

Yeah I found it kind of odd that they'd build the purifier right there in the Memorial. After some time, with all that water constantly flowing through it would erode the stone until it's no longer recognizable. I thought, being an important monument for American history they'd try to preserve the statue.

not every thing has to make sense, maybe they thought it would look kind of cool. why do people do a lot of things like design an island to look like the world?? or a palm tree??

From what I can tell the only one who actually cares about American history is Abraham Washington.

Sometimes you just have to use what you have. The Project Purity scientists didn't have the means to construct a whole new structure for the purifier, so they modified the most convenient existing one.
