Computer to reccomend

Post » Sun Sep 12, 2010 9:32 pm

Hey there, can anyone here recommend me any 'complete' computer to buy to be able to play Skyrim at either high or max settings without any optimisation of my own and such. I've never been a computer junkie so I don't really have the knowledge to build one. I know the specs for skyrim hasn't been released so just based it on your estimation. The cheaper the better :foodndrink: thanks! (:

Here are the recommended specs for a couple of upcoming 2011 games (obviously these are entirely different engines, so not sure exactly how relevant the specs would be). I would add that if it is within your budget you may want to get an SSD or hybrid drive to reduce the load times.

Dragon Age 2 - March 2011 (recommended specs)
CPU: Intel Quad Core 2.4 GHz Processor or equivalent
CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 Triple core 2.8 GHz or equivalent
RAM: 2GB (4 GB Vista and Windows 7)
Video: ATI 3850 512 MB or greater
Video: NVIDIA 8800GTS 512 MB or greater
DirectX 11: ATI 5850 or greater
DirectX 11: NVIDIA 460 or greater

The Witcher 2 - May 2011 (minimum specs)
----- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or similar AMD
----- Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2 GB for Vista
----- Graphics: Nvidia GF 8800 512 VR or similar AMD
----- Hard Drive: 8GB for game and 8GB bonus content

Get an i7 cpu doesnt really matter which one as long as you overclock.
at least 3-6gb ram.
a ssd can be cheap.
and most importantly a graphic card a strong one.
wait for the gtx 595 you only need one to run the latest games on max.

Elder Master's PC would run Skyrim on max - probably a few times over. If you don't have a budget, then go for it, otherwise you can buy much cheaper hardware. If you're looking for a prebuilt, it's going to be expensive, and I'd seriously reccomend building your own.

The upshot of that, though, is that building your own is incredibly easy - everything has an obvious slot it goes into, everything comes with instructions, and providing you don't accidentally snap anything if you screw up you can take it out and start again. You'll also be much better equipped to either upgrade, or fix if anything goes wrong (which it can, often more likely on a prebuilt because they'll cut corners)

The Nvida Gtx 200 series would be able to max out the settings in my opinion if not just get something from the 400 or 500 series their very high end through and can get very hot

Alienware is horrible. Never buy from them.

Honestly, I'd just order parts and pay someone to put it together if you don't have the knowhow yourself. It's honestly INCREDIBLY simple, and can be done just by reading manuals and such, but, if you really don't think you can, just order parts and pay a professional. You'll still save money and get much better performance and personalization then if you were to order prebuilt.

The 460 doesn't get very hot at all... it gets to about 43 degrees c on Ultra settings with no AA in 1920x1080 Crysis warhead running at a 25MHz overclock. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

I recommend you wait until the fall to get hardware to get the best performance for your budget.
