(WARNING: TL;DR version at end of post, if you want a big story with incoherent rambling from a sick man, read on.)
Been sick recently, gonna try to make it short.
Over all, good game, high quality potential. Incomplete in some regards in my humble opinion.
Better than Fallout 3? To me? Heck yeah it is. This game reminds me of a combination of Fallout 1, 2, AND 3. They did a lot of things great, somethings, not so much. But they were probably overwhelmed in trying to develop this.
Things I like:
1. Same fallout feel, and old school feel and music added.
2. I was shot in the head at the begining of the game.
3. Addition of real world type weapons, feels nice not having to use a giant super glock hand cannon all the time. I like me some 9mm action paction!!!!1
4. NCR faction.
5. The idea of New Vegas.
Err there is more but im kind of sick and cant think straight at all....
Things I didn't like as much.
1. Steam
2. Quick save bugs, that was annoying, I hear the console users have had a way way horrible time when it comes to corrupt saves.
3. When I was playing (beat the game) I was feeling like crap near the begining and decided I just wanted to experience the story so I cruised through everything, during my killing spree and small amount of questing and exploration, eventually I made it to Caeser's camp and the dbag was all like "disarm blah blah blah" so I said "f that" and began the fight of my life. Through many reloads I managed to get to a point to Caeser's camp where I was hiding behind a tent with no stim packs and no turbo left so I was thinking whatever.
I don't recommend do any of that, but I've been sick so I just wanted to experience the ending so I could enjoy myself on my next playthrough where I used cheats.
Anyway anyway, back top the game. I basically used cheats to kill everyone in that camp (kill command) because I was level 11 and didnt feel like suffering through training myself more, or stockpiling a ton of drugs from new vegas to do so.
Before you say "well, you must be complaining how short the game is." no, I'm just saying, I would have beaten it that day anyway, I just didnt feel like buying drugs from the omertas, sleeping and waiting for the stock piles to respawn to kill that camp. Because I was a chem head with about 70 in gun skill playing on normal mode using basically my weathered 10m and... well dynamite. Oh, and 9mm.
Now I could have quick traveled out and blah blah blah, like I said, I just wanted to complete the story to see the ending. I wasnt expecting the old guy to still be alive, yes I killed him. Because leaving some dude alive in a pod with no internet is worse than death imo. Plus, I was already killing everyone.
A complaint though, what did you guys do to the epic last battle? That was pathetic compared to fallout 3 and the giant robot with craploads of explosions.
I was dissapointed...gaaah I feel like craaap..... *whine*.... Anyway, I think that could have been done better. The ending fight at the damn was pithy. I did it with the kilbot army since I was trying to take over Vegas.
Another complaint...
You had to investigate the other casinos and groups to wipe them out? Why? I should have just been able to tell Yes Man "I want them gone, just cause."
I mean, I feel in FO3 that option would have been there.
Anyways, if you're asking "so you probably used the kill command on that dude with the sun mask and the giant sword." the answer is a no, sadly, at the time, due to my illness and the time I was playing at, I forgot that command existed and proceeded to reload my quick saves about 50 times to kill that mother and the legions of veterans he had with him. Oh lord that fight was so difficult. I used my 2 turbos right at the begining, then ran around, I had a anti material rifle with me and I think I had 84 GUN skill? maybe.
Basically I won by doing this, after killing the first two dudes with my perfect con ballistic fist, (on turbo) I ran away back up the hill, took out my 50 cal sniper and shot at him no scope, kept doing that for like 2 seconds until the legions chase you, then somehow survive long enough to run away (I was level 12) well its all hazy afterr that, the only way I won was I ran up the hill near the tent and hid on a ledge where they could still shoot me but not as well cuz of a tiny metal bar sticking up infront of me. This is near the camps, it overlooks the resting camps anyway.
Thats where I earned my "Lord Death" perk. Oh and I popped every consumable item in my inventory regardless of effect. My screen became light blue and my health wouldnt go down after I did that. Was freaky. Once on that ledge I just kept using my anti matter until I had no ammunition left, and then switched to my sniper rifle and finished off most of his followers while damaging him. To finish him (he was still alive after craploads of shots) I jumped off the ledge and hid inside a tent and shot him point blank with my sniper rifle. Took a couple reloads. Then I ran away hid behind a crate for the couple of veterans that spawned.
After doing that for a couple hours I realized how BS that was, and that I should have just used the kill command, but it was kind of fun I guess. Being sick, it gave me more of a headache than anything.
So then the last part where the general comes, I just used the kill command, hit him with the giant sword I got and the robots finished him off. Kill command on the rangers that is.
I'd say, with enough turbo, it doesnt matter what level you are in this game. Maybe.
Well, again, in my opinion after the game ended, it really should just let you keep on playing... LIKE IN NUMBER 3!!! I realize that there will be some good DLC coming out for this product, and that will be patched in at a later date.
The game itself actually has a good amount of content, I didnt explore anything hardly. And there are a good amount of ways to go about things. I feel the game has improved over all. Such as, running with your pistol out, now you hold it up, looks so much better. I think they should have upped the effectiveness of silencer weapons though.
Maybe it was my level, that was my first play through.
Now, I'm replaying it again in my relax mode, I've spawned a 50 cal rifle and craploads of rounds, I can go at my own pace, think it'll be more fun that way.
Being sick and all, rushing through the story, I'd say I was only dissapointed with the hoover dam battle, and the fact the game ends. (I realize itll be patched later.. but I think making everyone wait is pointless. Especially since I thought because fallout 3 didnt end now, this would have already had the option so I could go back and redo content I missed, because I think I missed craploads. and I did)
I think if you didnt rush through the game, this game perhaps has 4-10 days of content?
Not sure, right now my replay with cheats (*cough* veteran ranger armor, anti material rifle) I take it real slow. I'm just content with being a bad ass (who has all perks). I think the game is more fun that way, you have way more options in what you do. My favorite weapon is actually the 9mm.
I think one playthrough might try being loyal to KAISAR or Ceaser or how ever you say it.
So from what I have played I give this game a
9.1/10
Yeh, thats about right, I left out a lot of my points cuz im sick, I just wanted to
express myself. I FEEL LIKE IM DYING BRO!11u1NoooOooOOo
