Main Story Confusion

Post » Mon Sep 13, 2010 1:01 pm

Hey all, I have a few questions about this convoluted mess of a main story. (No offense intended, but this game has left me very confused.) I've gotten to the point where I'm having to either decide to help Mr. House control New Vegas, or take control myself. At first I was going to let the House win so to speak since I bought into the idea that he was good guy and wanted whats best for New Vegas. Unfortunately in helping him I alienated my ally the NCR and failed the quest "Don't tread on the bear", and almost immediately afterwords ended up deciding against working for Mr. House after he instructed to me destroy the Brotherhood.

So now I figured I guess I'll run NV independently with the help of allied factions such as the bombers, brotherhood, and the NCR if I were able. (Which for failing that mission I don't think I can.) The story starts really becoming convoluted when I after I go through the brotherhood missions and become a Knight/Paladin. As I'm unable to tell Yes Man that they're allies despite being accepted by the Brotherhood, and Yes Man seems to make it clear that ignoring them is a bad idea regardless if I'm a member. Also he wanted me to check into the White Glove society but it seems the only choice was to ignore them since whoever I talked to just gave me some generic line and that was that. (Yes I talked to the founder) So now I'm completely unsure what to do and feel more like restarting the game rather than going through because it feels like I've messed up, and the game isn't allowing me to do what I want to do.

( Also before anyway says anything about the Legion, joining them is a non-option seeing how I played a good character, I'm vilified, and Caesar is kinda dead.)

P.s Also can someone tell me how to get Raul's secondary outfit I've had him in the party for quite some time, and even got special dialogue with him while helping the bombers, but since then he hasn't had anything important to say.

^ Same thing here ^

Once I hit the whole Platinum Chip / Yes Man / Mr House quests, the story fell apart and left me very confused.

I also am playing a good character and also kind of wiped out the Legion camp while doing everything to make the NCR proud. I thought setting up my own rule in Vegas via Yes Man would allow me to let the NCR run things -- and also allow me to ignore some of the cooler/non-evil factions (Boomers, White Gloves, etc).

But the newly installed Yes Man will only allow me to "ignore" all these factions, and once I choose to ignore them all, then I get 2 quests. One to save the Pres at the Dam (an NCR positive), only to be followed up with an assault on the Dam to wipe out the NCR (huh!?).

So now I have no clue where to go with the "end game," and have resorted to random side quests and blackjack. I don't know how to get past this bottlenecked path of having to take out NCR at the Dam. I don't even know how I got into this position since I was carefully pro-NCR my whole game...

If you want the NCR as Allies then you pretty much have to side with them (at least I think you do) but you may be able to if you were to do the whole independent thing.

Anyone know if there is anyway to salvage my playthrough? I mean whenever I even attempt to do the wildcard quest it just feels like I messed up since it won't allow me to ally with the BoS, and I physically can't do anything but ignore the White Glove society since they refuse to talk to me. Add to the fact that there's no way I can go back to siding with House since I randomly failed one of his quest while helping the BoS, and the NCR hate me for helping Mr. House.

You can't really flip flop in this game, which makes it realistic. Once you make your decision, you stuck to it. Going certain distances in the main story will cut off certain side-quests (as an example). I also sided with house, and destroyed the BoS (after goign through their first set of quests, lol). Now the wild card quest is impossible, mostly because im seen as the devil to them. It did fail autmatically though.

I'm not really trying to flip flop. I understand that I can't go back to the NCR, and House, but it just won't let me have the BoS as my allies which I'm starting to guess is just apart of the game, and when I try to get into the inner workings of the White Glove Society to see if they're a threat or not they just brush me off. Which is kind of irritating since the game seems to give me the choice of joining with them or destroying them, but it really won't allow either. I mean just fumbling through the main quest I've somehow made everyone hate me and what few allies I have the game will not let me side with them.

Why not....... move back to the start, and kill every person / animal in the game that isnt NCR - that way you end up with NCR "winning" remember there are 20,000 things that can be killed :) and only 1 x person that cant....... :)

Hey Dunmer Crusader,

It looks like following the NCR line is a problem for many, as I've found a lot of threads not only here, but also on Gamefaqs, IGN, Gamespot, etc. Many agree that there are gaps in the NCR line vs. the other ones. But the best suggestion I found was to visit Hoover Dam and ask around there, because there are a number of NCR plotline quests there that may jumpstart the "NCR control victory."

So I'm going to try that, and I guess if that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to go for the independent Vegas victory.

You can't flip flop BUT you can serve any of the three sides before betraying them and using Yes Man to take over for yourself.

Meh...Hoover Dam didn't help me get back on the NCR track. Colonel lady wouldn't speak to me.

So far, it looks like once Yes Man is in, NCR shuts down. But why have the "Don't Tread on the Bear" warning then?

Last ditch effort is to visit the NCR embassy in Vegas when I'm back in game. That's gotta work, right?

It pretty much is a jacked up mess to be sure, you get to a certain point and its just "wtf?"

Honestly, and then you have to investigate people for the Yes Man, you should just be able to decide on the spot without actually being forced to investigate [censored].

OR, with enough science skill, hack Yes Man to do what you want.

BS to be honest, still good game 9.1/10 imo.

The main quest is a pitiful joke.

Talking to YesMan and agreeing to his terms (only to report this to Mr. House) caused me to be unable to advance helping Mr. House.

This also screwed me out of being able to get my companions from my suite at the 38.

I'm done buying any game that Obsidian Entertainment is attached to, or associated with.
