Denkirson on Brink!

Post » Mon Sep 13, 2010 8:07 pm

Denkirson is going to be doing http://denkirson.xanga.com/738334226/brink/ for Brink.

I couldn't believe no one started a thread about this by now (I've actually known Denkirson was going to do Brink stats for a while, I just never connected it with the fact that it might be interesting to some of you that don't look at stats yet (you probably will in the future once you see this)).

There's obviously no stats yet, but there will be eventually.

The guy was really fast at getting MW2 stats out (probably because he had done so with CoD in the past), and I don't know any other major source for weapon stats (if you know of someone, feel free to comment, esp if you know he or she is doing stats for Brink).

While I am excited to know some of the weapons stats, there was also a link to fragworld, on a few stat changes for guns.

http://www.fragworld.org/frag/home-183.html

I don't exactly remember the thread, but if you haven't seen it it's pretty interesting.

He's talking about specific number stats, like bullets to kill (head, body, limbs) actual numbers for ROF and equip speed, things like that. Brink only offers those bars for each stat, which gives no real insight.

I really couldn't care less, since I'm going to use the guns I enjoy using anyway. The in-depth stat tracking of weapons is more for the "hardcoe" and competitive players - or players that aren't necessarily competitive, but want to know numbers-wise, what the best guns are so they can use them.

Oh. Well I'm not familiar w/ the depth of the stats that this Denkirson provides. But still good to know :D.

What is K/D, and why would it make you paranoid?

Weapon stats help a bit when trying to figure out how you should use them, eg, tapfire, spray, you name it.

Agree, his lists was very useful in BFBC2. I expect the same in Brink :)

I think it's mostly for people who want to get most "I am awesome" out of the game. So they will use the most powerful weapon and the most powerful equipment.

The devs said that no guns are going to be clearly superior. Maybe some do more damage, other higher RoF, or range. This would help crystalize that for players.

Not to mention all the attachments will throw it off anyway.

Either he would list it, or players would figure out on their own, which attachments to use and which to not - which ones gives the most advantage with the least amount if disadvantage, overall, for each weapon.

What has K/D to do with this? We were talking about weapon stats.

Yes, let me explain that... I'll try to rephrase it if I can.

First K/D is Kill to Death Ratio (ie 10kills and 10 deaths means a K/D of 10:10 or 1.00)

Basically, what I was trying to say is that because there are stats, you can (theoretically) figure out which gun is the most overpowered within its category (ie there will usually be a best rifle, AR, SMG, LMG, etc), thus players try to optimize. I'll just delete that poll if you guys think it's irrelevant.

Optimizing has more to do with calculus than statistics, but it seems relevant, because there are always people who want to use the best gun possible (M16 or UMP) with respect to CoD. Thus if you know a weapon has the greatest killing potential, then you will likely want to use it to increase your K/D (even in Brink, more kills means easier objectives).

There will be a "best" combination; I'm very positive about that. When you have only a little variety of guns (SMGs, ARs, LMGs) it's already hard to balance. Now add (Sniper-)Rifles, Pistols, HMGs, Grenades (-launchers) and it becomes considerably harder.
In addition, BRINK has different bodytypes and classes (abilities). More issues concerning waterproof balancing.

tl;dr - BRINK cannot be perfectly balanced. And someone (let's assume Denkirson) will find the best setup. And people will use the best setup the most.

I know what K/D was, we were just not discussing it. (Or I missed the poll when typing that)
