The Game Engine

I have a strong suspicion that this will be moved, but I didn't know where to put it; there were so many areas it could fit into.

Well, anyway. This is about whether the Elder Scrolls engine is/was the same engine used in Fallout 3. To me it definitely looks like it was, but the fact that the games were so different and the fact that people refer to the engine as the 'Fallout 3' game engine so often made me think about it.

My reasons for thinking it is the same engine is that the melee combat system, looting system, entering/leaving interior system, the NPCs etc. were all in a way identical to Oblivion's. As well as this, small things like how if you drop lots of things they will fall around you in a circle replicate Oblivion.

The more I think about it, the more I think the answer is obvious. But what would you consider the engine to be? The Elder Scrolls game engine or the Fallout game engine? Or the Bethesda game engine? =)

Just a thought I had.

Both Fallout 3 and Oblivion are based on the Gamebryo engine, which is used in many other games as well, and from what I understand, is also a newer version of the engine that was used in Morrowind, but of course, it was modified to suit the needs of the games. And Fallout 3's version of the engine had a number of improvements over the version used in Oblivion, as you may have noticed, some aspects of Fallout 3's graphics are considerably better than Oblivion.

The way things fall when you drop them though probably has more to do with the physics engine, which is Havok in both games.

The base was the same Gamebryo engine but enhanced by Bethesda for Fallout 3.

Plus, I may be wrong, but I do believe they used the Oblivion sword animations for your character using the Officers Sword. Don't quote me though, this is what I read.
