Dagail's words

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:40 pm

I see the City in the Hand, and the Hand in the Stars.
The Tower guards the Gate, but the Gate holds the Key.
The King is the Key, and the Hand guards the King.

This was spoken by Dagail, the seer in the Leyawiin Mages Guild. Any idea on what it means exactly? I think I have an idea what some parts may mean, but not all of the parts.

Possible anolysis (but probably wrong):

The hand is the hand of Fate. The city is gripped by a fated event. The fate is written in the stars.

The "Gate" holds the "Key"

The "Key" is the King.

So-

The "Gate" holds the "King"

The Hand guards the King-- The Gate is therefore fate.

So--

The fate written in the stars is governed by the Tower, The key to the tower is the king.

Given the history of the Amulet of kings, The emperor would have been absorbed by the amulet as soon as he died, and become a stone it's oversoul of kings.

The Amulet of kings is the key to WhiteGold tower.

So-- WhiteGold Tower manipulates fate. The fate of the city is manipulated by this tower. The King is the key to the tower, and the Tower has chosen his fate.

This would make sense, since Uriel is absolutely CERTAIN that his death is unavoidable, and is written in the stars... ;)

She also states that you are the hand that guards the king. I've always seen it as forshadowing of the role you're going to play in the Mankar vs. Martin feud. You are the hand. That means the action will be done by you. I agree with Weird though on everything else.

The king being the key could refer to Uriel being inside the amulet, or it could refer to the fact that the amulet is a useless trinket unless in the hands of someone who has been fated by the stars to be of the "king" archetype. Which begs the question can the "rebel" archetype also use the amulet since they're two sides of the same coin?

I know, I know, dragon blood and all, but we know better, don't we? ;)

Oh, it's not a complaint. I actually look forward to seeing what new insights people here might have that we might not have thought of back then. It's just that my explanation hasn't changed and it was easier to link to that thread than to type it all out again. :)

Isn't that about the Towers upholding Akatosh' fancy barrier? Ye know, Emperor dead, White Gold deactivated, you guarding Martin and stuff...

Maybe the tower is the tower vivec was talking about.

The "I".

The Tower holds the secret, the warrior guards the tower(or the tower's secret), the thief seeks the tower's secret......

Could the hand be the hand of the thief? The secret is being taken?

I see the City in the Hand, and the Hand in the Stars.
The Tower guards the Gate, but the Gate holds the Key.
The King is the Key, and the Hand guards the King

The city in the hand, and the hand in the stars...........

The city is in the grasp of the hand! The hand is held in place by the stars.

The Tower guards the Gate, but the gate holds the key.

The Tower is the "I' and the Gate is a portal while the key(the secret) unlocks the gate (opens the portal).

The king is the key, and the hand guards the king.

The king is the man who obtains the secret (the key), and the hand is protecting him..

I think this is about Chim and Zero Sum.

I think the hand is Chim preventing the king from disintegration.

Could someone somewhere be achieving Chim?
