Need help getting Arena to install on my computer : The Elder Scrolls Series Discussion

Ok let me explain something first:I download arena, i burn the files to a CD, then i transfer the files from the cd to my old pentium II windows 98. However, it wont install. The thing says it can only install from a floppy disk.

how do i install arena on my computer?

I just downloaded it from www.elderscrolls.com then I installed it to the root of my c: drive and used a application called http://dosbox.com/ to run it, this is covered in the sticky.

However you might try running the file called "install.exe" and see if you can install it through there.

yeah that guide doesnt work for me.That guide is for a windows xp, im using a windows 98

is anyone gonna help me? that guide is for windows xp, im using an old windows 98. I really want to play the game.Can someone post a step by step guide to installing it on win. 98?

If you extracted the files then it's already installed.

Yeah its apparently installed, it can play, but theres no sound and whenever i try to open the equipment menu the game freezes. What do i do?

I don't know what to tell you. You can try to configure your sound card using the "install.exe" program. The equipment menu freezing could very well be due to your sound malfunctioning.

Where can i find the install.exe program?

(if you mean the "install" file that comes with arena, it doesnt work.It says "can only install from floppy disk"

When I use it I have three options, and the one I'm talking about is "Configure Game." You should only get that error message if you actually try to install it from that program.

Ok i got it too run from dosbox somehow, it has sound(but the sound is warbled and skips alot) and doesnt freeze, but its lagging like hell.It wasnt lagging when i wasnt running it on dosbox.Do you know what the problem is? Also im on a old pentium II win. 98, would that be the problem?

You're running Arena in DOSBox on a Pentium II? Yeah, that might be why it's "lagging."

Well can someone help me? oh, and by "lagging", i meant it runs at around 1 fps.
Is there like an older version of dosbox that works on a pentium II win 98? that can run arena of course

Emulation takes a lot of processor power. No older version of DOSBox would help you with that. (using an older version would rather achieve the opposite result)
Your best bet is to find a way to run it without using an emulator.

damn.... do you have any ideas to get it too run normally(on my PC)? It has no sound and freezes when i open equipment menu or level up.... Can you help?
